Actually, strong evidence has been found to indicate that she ditched somewhere in the Gilbert Islands, in what is now the country Kiribati. They have found a lipstick tube, various articles of clothing, and a WWII-era US Navy photograph showing an object that appears to be the landing gear of a Lockheed Model 10 Electra. How long she may have survived (if at all) is only the stuff of speculation.

Speculation is rife, off course, but here is an opinion from an experienced pilot.

Being serious, take a look at sprocket's link, it's more plausible than anything else I've seen. Also, judging by the Indonesian attitude, methinks they know something they don't want anyone else to know.

Alex, The "what if's" are scary. In my mind, the worst "what if" is the possibility of an on-board fire due to an aircraft malfunction of any sort. If they don't find what it was, then What if it happens again, and again and again?

2 people with stolen passports on the exact same flight and young and both have the names Hussein ??????

Chances of that happinin' are about like me hittin every number on the Roulette Wheel 25 times !

Aircraft had bout' 7.5 to 8 hrs. of Fuel - I was looking around Google Earth , and Pakistan ain't that far away, and the "Swat Valley" is a Taliban hold out.

Wouldn't surprise me, if these 2 yung'ens, were tricked or corced or bribed into stealing this jetliner and thoroughly trained before hand on what to do.

Fly Jet to a remote Airstrip they been building, unload the passengers hide the plane, off the passengers and spend a few months getting the plane ready for a more sinister whatever.

Who remembers the Pop Machine - in the Sum of all Fears ?????

Remember what it did at the Stadium in Baltimore !

I probably watch too much TV,,,, but,,, what if ????

Stay away from Pop Machines I guess : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-h_xgdM8FI

The Iranian nationals on that flight were looking to migrate to Europe and seek political asylum, not disrupt the flight. Stolen passports are commonly used the world over to illegally migrate to other countries, and there is a huge black market for them. I take offense to assuming that these men are troublemakers based solely on their names. Besides, Malaysia is predominantly Islamic, and the Iranian government is currently focusing on antagonizing the Christian West and Israel at the moment, not the Sunni sect. Terrorism is unlikely at this point, since nobody has claimed any responsibility for any "attack."

Also, Tom Clancy is not a very reliable source on the world of aviation. For example, he wrote an entire chapter in Red Storm Rising about the F-19, a fighter jet that does not exist.

On top of that, any airport with a runway big enough for a 777-200 is watched closely enough for somebody to notice a transponder-less jet landing without clearance. That alone would set alarm bells ringing, and it would only take a matter of hours for somebody to identify the unscheduled arrival as the missing jet.

One of the more plausible explanations, think back to Swissair Flight 111, however it does not explain the climbing and diving of the aircraft though.....?
Also an interesting remark from a former BA pilot on the news this morning. In the event of a fire or decompression, turning off the airway would be a standard procedure as you do not want to make an emergency decent through an air corridor being used by other aircraft.......?

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

For any of you current or ex pilots especially those who have flown the B777. What does it take for a B777 at cruising altitude of 32K feet ascend to 43K feet. How long will it take to reach that altitude and what is likely to happen once the aircraft reaches that altitude.
