Have a look in your events log. It will tell you what the problem is.

How do I access my events log? I looked in my log book, but can't find the flight because I didn't manage to land in time.

Bottom left of screen click on start.
Just above it you will see "search programs and files"
Type in "event log".
Then click on "View event logs"
Wait for it t populate then have a look at the various events.
Click on the one you want to look at, then click again for their details.

Did you install the 'Invaders Flyable Saucer Update' uploaded today? If so - delete it.

Although the base file for this was FSX/FS2004 -- the update is for FS2004 only and will cause FSX to crash (I have fixed the description).

If you didn't install this --- have a look at the l;atest files you have installed and see if there is anything in there

Also, do any of you know how to get a better FPS out of FSX, clearly my hardware is good enough, but I think it is too goo for the game. I went to a optimization website and it said it fix my config, I run it max at 30 FPS because I was told that was best. Any ideas?

Here is one thing you can try . This will shut down any unneeded programs before starting FSX
http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster
I would also caution you in changing any of you virtual memory if you should choose to little it is going to make things a lot worse than they are now.
It is best to let windows manage this. Beside that you will not gain a whole lot of speed by changing this.
This is like over clocking. I know a lot of people do this but really to me it is just not worth the risk you really do not gain a whole lot from doing this and if you go to far it can and will destroy your complete system.
You have to ask your self is a little extra speed worth risking destroying your system for.
I for one never under stood why any one would do this.
I know a lot of people will swear about this and how much faster there system is, But in reality you can not get that much more speed by doing this.
Changing the ram frequency is not that dangerous but increasing the voltage that your cpu gets can be risky.

Changing win virtual memory has nothing to do with speed!
It has something to do with windows space to do what it needs and want! And that goes for "games" too. We are talking about FSX crashing

It has nothing to do with overclocking

You're right tho, by setting virtual mem too low or too high, you prob will go into problems, but if setting the recommendated size by windows, it should be just fine!

Please!

Under those conditions, I would suspect overheating, causing the computer/program to shut down.

Are you sure that ALL the FANS, eg; Processor, Graphics card, PSU, and case fans are all running at full speed, and not clogged up with dust, or the bearings lacking lubricant and slowing down (drying out).

I would give that a good check over first!

As for Frame Rates; best to LOCK it to 25-30 FPS for overall smoothness. Anything faster (unlimited) is wasted on the hardware, and you wont notice any difference.
(Your eyeballs cant flicker that fast!... ....)!
(Multiplayer insists that frame rates are locked to 20 FPS so as not to overload the Server).
