Maule Orion on wheel/skis

Postby Flying Trucker » Tue Feb 11, 2014 1:09 pm

Good afternoon all... <<q

Another ninety minutes spent on the Microsoft FSX Game and who ever does the scenery for Microsoft FSX they need to spend some time in Canada. Not even the airport looks like the one I took off from...

Oh well, fun and games doing some more touch and goes on a frozen little lake just North of the Belleville "CNU4" Ontario Airport using the FSX Maule Orion on wheel/skis.

Microsoft FSX and Windows 7
Flight 1 Ultimate Terrain
Flight 1 Ground Environment X
REX Essential Plus Overdrive
Season: Winter...a nice CAVU (clear air, visibility unlimited) day
Time: Late afternoon
Location: Ontario, Canada

Plodding along North of Belleville for several air miles...
Image

I know that little lake just above the aircraft nose is frozen over...
Image

Reduced Manifold Pressure and Engine RPM over town because of the noise and the low level approaches...the town borders the lake and we don't want a large crowd to gather on the ice perhaps obstructing the touch and goes... <<u
However Engine RPM will be increased once past the shore line and over the ice and for take off...
Image

Shake...Rattle and Roll on Full Ski...
Image

Another Roll in with Manifold Pressure and Engine RPM reduced for noise until over the ice...
Image

Almost down...
Image

Flaps Up...Tail dropping down...think I shall taxi to the shore and visit a local greasy spoon for an onion and cheese sandwich and a hot cup of tea...
Image

Again sorry could not find any ice huts, snowmobilers or ice sail boats to buzz...

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Good morning "Bass" Kurt... <<q

Thanks for the comment...much appreciated... ;)

I have tried everything I can think of to get:
rain...to look real
snow...to look real
ice on lakes, ponds and rivers to look real

So far I have not been successful and yes you are right about the ice on the small lake looking more like grass than anything...

Anyone have other suggestions on how to make ice on lakes, ponds and rivers to look more realistic :?:

ya, the problem resides within your aircrafts CFG File

look real closely at the "Titles" ,,,,,

something like this

title= whatever name its called

apparently you've got 2 maule aircraft with the same title, look closely for it, and change the title's ending to say something like

X marks the Spot or whatever ya wanna call it then click save in the upper Left hand corner of your CFG File,,,, should work !

@Yan. You have another (or more) Maule that has the same "name" in aircraft.cfg interferring each other! Thats why you get the msg. Try to delete the one you dont use, or change .cfg's.

@Doug. Been around Ontario, Saskatchewan and NW Territories, and i simply haven't found any frozen lakes yet :? Where should i go to?

Jet, i was too slow....again

Hi "Bass" Kurt... <<u

You will notice I have listed the following:
Flight 1 Ultimate Terrain Canada
Flight 1 Ground Environment X

I have changed the settings to Winter and Ice however it does not show all that well in FSX as many spots which are frozen over show open water in FSX.

Not sure if FSX will show frozen water (lakes, rivers and ponds) on it's own.

Try the following:
Canada>Ontario>Belleville Airport "CNU4"
Fly north just a bit...some lakes will show open but you should see some frozen lakes also.

I also use the following FSX Setting:
Season....Winter
Month.....February
Use a nice day...few clouds

That should give you some ice on a lake, river or pond if FSX will do that... <<s

Try also the United States and the State of Alaska...Winter and February and see if that brings something up also...

Good luck Kurt... ;)
