Is this where we complain about snow?

Wow, that's a lot of rain and water. All caused by a low pressure system. I wonder, if there is only a set amount of pressure in our atmosphere would it mean a low pressure here causes a high pressure somewhere else?

High Pressure....

Probably accounts for the present serious drought in California NORCAL and SOCAL extending over such a long time.

High pressure = Fine Weather.
Low Pressure = Stormy weather.

Weather systems often get "locked-in"!

Its what Mother Nature throws at us, and there's not a lot we can do about it!

I just dug this one out from 1982. I can't believe it was me. I had to shovel snow of the wings of my Taylorcraft after every snowfall. That year we had 14Ft of snow. One 'plane owner lost his plane until spring and lost his main spar too.

What winter storm? Sentries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier still stand fast

Image

The federal government may have shut its doors due to weather conditions — but the guards tasked to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier aren’t so quick to abandon their posts.

With what’s being billed as the storm of the season dumping inches of snow on the Washington, D.C., region, leaving a cloud of closures in its wake — Capitol Hill, area schools, airports, Metro bus service and almost all government offices in Maryland, the capital city and Virginia — the stalwart sentries for some of America’s most revered military sites stand tall and fast.

The Society of the Honor Guard's Tomb of the Unknown Soldier website sees its mission this way: “The guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier (we call ourselves ‘Sentinels’) are completely dedicated to their duty of guarding the Tomb. Because of that dedication, the weather does not bother them. In fact, they consider it an honor to stand their watch (we call it ‘walking the mat’), regardless of the weather. It gets cold, it gets hot — but the Sentinels never budge. And they never allow any feeling of cold or heat to be seen by anyone.”

Sergeant of the Guard, Sgt. 1st Class Tanner Welch, said to Washington Times‘ Alex Swoyer that the guarding of the Tomb of the Unknowns started in 1926 — and that it’s been a 24-hour, round-the-clock mission since 1937 ...

1. Captain, if the problem is not entered into the technical logbook.........then the aircraft does not have a problem.
2. And, if you have time to write the fault on a napkin and attach to it to the yoke.........you have time to write it in the tech log....see point 1.

Local news announced the Great Lakes between Canada and the United States are frozen over.

This is the first time they have froze over in twenty years.

I remember when they froze over all the time and the Ice Breakers used to work the Great Lakes so the Coal Boats could dock.
The Rail Road also brought in a lot of coal also and transported the coal north.
Most folks in the towns and cities heated their homes with coal back then and many folks in the country heated their homes with coal and wood.

We used coal and wood and there were hot water radiators throughout our home...what a wonderful heat.

I could place a pair of mittens on a hot water radiator and they would be dry in minutes...

Yes now all I got to do is let the Old Girl let me go up to the bugsmasher field tomorrow and talk a friend or two into flying their bugsmashers on skis over Lake Ontario to see if there are any snowmobilers or ice sail boats we can chase and buzz... :o

Oh and back to the doctor Wednesday to check out this foot of mine...still having a hard time to put weight on it but that will not stop this Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezer from getting up to the bugsmasher field....OOPS forgot about the Old Girl...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug
