Make your own darn desktop!

What an IDIOT!

Sometimes you can look at a simple solution RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOUR OWN FACE for years!!!

OK, I don't think that this'll take much explaining, so here goes...

I like to change my desktop pretty often. There's even a very good program called DisplayFusion that I find useful. Give it a try if you want, but use the free version. That version is a feature limited version, but otherwise is quite useful.

If you have one, or two, monitors drag & drop the appropriate sized picture to your desktop and use it a sample desktop background. All these pictures have been trimmed down. So they aren't going to look all that great, BUT they will give you an idea of how to make great looking desktop backgrounds.

Just looking at the picture on the monitor WILL NOT be the same as having it filling your entire screen as a background, so drag & drop.

The first time that I realized that I could use my own screen captures for a desktop were these two. These are from moments after the landing gear left the ground in St. Stephan (LSTS), Switzerland on a flight to Geneva. That flight is one of my favorites.

For those with a single monitor try this one as a background. (That's a lot of mountain in front of you, and the runway isn't all that long. :D )

Here's a landing in Pisa, Italy for a single screen.

And here is the same landing spread over two monitors.

As I said, the quality has been reduced to post it here. YOUR screen captures will come out much better saved to disk.

Just a couple of more screen captures that could be used as desktop wallpaper. AGAIN, these have been reduced to fit the site size limits. So just drag and drop them to your desktop to use as a test.

One or two points. I use a program called Fences from Stardock. This program lets you set up onscreen containers to hold your icons in groups.

But one of the really GREAT things that you can do with it, is to double click an unused area of your desktop AND ALL THE ICONS ARE HIDDEN!

Turn those extra monitors into picture windows. :D Get the free version and give it a try.

The other thing worth mentioning is the scenery over at OZX World Of Simulations!. These guys are single handedly converting me to photoreal scenery. So far, the stuff that they put out is photo scenery is done the way that it should be.

Some of the other stuff that I've tried from other places have been somewhere between "OK if you fly high enough" to "Where's the DELETE key"!

At any rate DO download these two bits of scenery.

OZx Liguria Photoreal X
And
OZx Tuscany Complete (TOTALLY IGNORE THE PICTURE ON THAT PAGE! The scenery isn't like that at all.)

These shots are from a flight starting in Genoa and down along the coast to Pisa using the OZX scenery.

Same thing - a shot for a single monitor, and the same shot from two monitors.

BTW - I hope I don't have to tell anyone to download their OZX Grand Canyon and KGCN + HolgerMESH v2 or OZx Death Valley Plus HolgerMesh scenery, do I?
