C185 on wheel/skis

Postby Flying Trucker » Mon Feb 10, 2014 1:07 pm

Goodly afternoon all... <<q

Just finished about a ninety minute simulated flight with six OFF FIELD Landing and Takeoffs...

Microsoft FSX and Windows 7
Flight 1 Ultimate Terrain X
Flight 1 Ground Environment X
REX Essential Plus Overdrive
Location: Collingwood "CNY3" to Prince Edward County...Ontario, Canada
Season: Winter
Time: Morning (AM)
Aircraft: Carenado C185F on wheel/skis

Microsoft Flight Simulator Games do not duplicate Canada very well and the Payware additions only increase the realism very little.
Ultimate Terrain X and Ground Environment X by Flight 1 help a little but Microsoft and these Payware Companies have a long way to go to get things right.

Prince Edward County has approximately three to four feet of snow on the ground and I would think Collingwood would have a lot more than that. The Trent River is frozen but I can't duplicate that in FSX. I changed the settings in Ultimate Terrain to ICE and still can't get the effect of frozen rivers and lakes.

I know they are frozen because I can see them out our window...

Well I found a couple of Beaver Ponds over in the County that were frozen over so here are a couple of shots... ;)

Sorry...could not find any ice fishing huts, snowmobilers or ice sail boats to buzz...

Climbing out of Collingwood "CNY3"

Flaps UP...Power and Trim Set...Collingwood Airport behind me...

Ground Bounders

Rolling onto Final...I love manual flaps...
Image

Setting up for final...small beaver pond...the body of water in the upper right is actually frozen over also but shows open water in FSX...

On final...flaps and skis down...

Now we shake...rattle and roll...

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

Looks great! Only advice I can give is...watch out for that road with the bridge on it over the beaver pond!! they can be real hard on wings!

Or, as one hunter said to another one morning...."DUCK!!!" :laughing-rolling: :laughing-rofl: :laughing-rofl: :laughing-lettersrofl:

I kill me....

I've had the pridvlage of flying an 180 in the Backcountry of Idaho last summer, and she is an amazing bird!
I rember I was going to go camping with a few of my friends and we took off from Nampa, ID (S67 on FSX but KMAN in the real world) and flew up north to Salmon Creek and we came in one an absolutly beautiful day next to the Salmon River, and were the only ones there. She flew like a dream and very responsive and was quick on Shortfeild take-offs and very forgiving.

Glad I could help. I am really useful at that kinda help...totally worthless but perfectly correct!

Good flying and remember, while take offs are optional, Landings are mandatory....Gravity, it's not just a good idea, it's the LAW! :D
