Oh well, at least the country doesn't freak out when 2 flakes of snow reach the ground.
Yet somehow the second largest city in the country flooding a couple of times a year is perfectly fine and is just a minor inconvenience.

I want to start off by sayin' I have always loved snow and snowy weather and will always prefer cold weather over
hot/muggy weather. Now, with that being said...... ENOUGH WITH THE SNOW ALREADY!!!!!... JESUS CHRIST!!!!!

My mom and I were among the over 800,000 unfortunate people that lost their electric in the southeast pennsylvania
area. We lost are power on tuesday 2/4 at 1:45pm. we didn't get it back on till Friday 2/7 at 9:20am. BRRRR!!!!!

The old homestead got down to 49 degrees by the second day (am). The only thing that saved my mom from what felt like
freezing to death was a trusty old blast from the distant past, my kerosene heater. I had to do a service on it then
it preformed very well. I had a private/to my self little computition to see how high I could get that thermostat to rize.
It made it up to 64 degrees by the time the power came back on. That kero/heater is one of those things that becomes
priceless in a crisis situatuion. That and the gas grill. They served us well!

It's amazing how we all take for granted these things we're so used to having. But when they're gone!....... :? ..

Here in Northeastern Ohio we mount the snowthrower up to the tractor and make a few passes up and down the drive and call it a day!

And now you know why I have a generator and enough gas on hand for about 3 weeks worth of steady running. I don't bother powering the deepfreeze, I can just stick the food outside :D I do, however, make sure the circuits for the house heater and the waterbed heaters are online. Nothing worse than a cold waterbed! Or sitting on a frosty toilet seat! BRRRRRRR!!

Fortunately, I did a lot of camping when I was younger, and Coleman makes great, lightweight stoves, lanterns, etc all run on the same fuel as the generator! Those lanterns make a ton of heat too!

Stay warm all! bundle up!

Pat☺
Have fun, fly high, far, and free!

..I think its called..."Climate"?

...it 'appens!

Many of us are old enough to have experienced that its all happened before...regularly!

Winters? First real winter I can remember is the snow in winter 1948/49 in UK. That was the year my Dad fell through our bedroom ceiling. Later that winter got trapped shovelling a tunnel to our back door when he eventually got home from night shift at the Jaguar. Still never as bad as the winters we went through here in Canada, winters in Prince George BC saw 14 ft. of snow, temperatures dropping to minus 50. Hard to believe I now live in the middle of the Coast range mountains and not a flake of snow. Mind you it's cooold with snow on the mountains all around. I feel for those who have it worse and don't know how to enjoy winter.

I seen that flooding in Britain on the BBC and local news about a week and a half ago I think. I was going to ask how you
were doing over there Paul. Sorry I got side tracked. How are you doing over there my friend? Is that anywhere near you?

The only thing I regret about the power outage is not being more prepared for an emergency. The good things that came of this
situation are, we learned what we need for any future emergency situation like this. I'm working on that now. also, it was a good
chance for family to put down the damn phones and gadgets and sit around the livingroom heater/camp fire and talk to each other
for a change.

Pat! that's funny and true about the toilet seat! :o ... That sucker felt like about 30 degrees Brrr!. anyone who drives truck
has probably had the pleasure of using those job site outhouses. BRRRRRRR!!! and PEWWWWW!!!

Hello Dwayne.... :D ...!

Many thanks for your concern... ;) ...!
In Herefordshire, we are often lucky in being protected against the worst of any weather by the Black Mountains, and Malvern Hills, on either side of the county. The Vale of Herefordshire.
Low lying areas of the County are flooded by the River Wye, but most of that flood water comes from the Welsh Mountains, rather than from torrential rain here.
I live in a very high point in the City, where, if I were flooded, the rest or the World would be under water!... ...!
Most victims of flood chose to live in areas which are liable to flood.....Like folks who build their houses amongst trees and scrub, and then wonder why their houses burn down when the weather gets hot...(California Wild Fires!)!

England is suffering from a constant, locked-in, low pressure region from The Atlantic Ocean, creating lots of rain....the sort of stuff that Western Australia could do with at the moment to extinguish their Wildfires!!

The present weather means its far too wet to mow my garden lawn at the mo!

Paul...."Singing in the Rain...."..... ...!

...and let us not forget...there is a serious Drought in California, and desperate water shortage!

At least we're getting a nice geography lesson here. How about posting your local website so we can all see where you all live? http://www.lillooetbc.com

I was refering to the fact that Cork (second largest city in ireland) usualy gets flooded several times a year and the government doesn't care. :/
They could build some walls next to the river, Use one of the empty quarries around or even make some sort of emergency water block but this was their response when someone asked if they could get some Dutch water experts over here: "It shouldn't matter what country they're from". In political terms this means: we have no contacts there.

Jp, if the government built Dutch style dykes, they'd need Irish boys with big thumbs to plug a leak. Or they could put a Cork in it.

Thanks, That clears it up a bit, it's Ireland, city of Cork. I wasn't sure which country you were refering to. It's true floods are much worse than snow. Snow does have an ominous side, depending on how fast the spring melt happens. Best of luck to you. 8)

Observing the disastrous U.K. floods at the moment....

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26081187

I wonder what the effect would have been if the weather had been cold enough to turn all that moisture in the air into snow instead, day after day!

The country would now be buried under countless feet of snow!
