Which City does your FSX have the hardest time flying in?

Postby Hestntonpms » Sat Feb 08, 2014 4:58 pm

I will explain, For the longest time I was never able to fly in NYC with sliders set to even halfway without major Lag no matter what type of CFG's were applied.
I could never understand why that was because I had no issues in any other city.
After rebuilding my PC however I am able to Run FSX in Manhattan using VRS superbug which kills resources and I can run it with ever single slider to as far right as it can go the only issue it does have is every now and then it will give me a slight stutter but as far as the frame rates, they stay consistent 30 FPS that is while running FS recorder and Nvidia Shadow Play recorder at the same time . . . . will post a video as soon as it is is loaded to Youtube but I am curious if there are any other that experience this issue but elsewhere ? or is it just NYC?

San Francisco gives me the hardest time and that DEFAULT "San Francisco".

with FSX Gold Acceleration & FS Scene, and 150 add on Airports & over 4.500 aircraft.

no problems with NY or Boston or LA, Miami, Vegas, but also those are all Stock Default Airports, I don't buy big mega Payware Airports anyway only smaller regional airports, just not impressed with all those Big Mega Airports.

all my Sliders slid to the right except 1 it bout 1/2 way and that's my water.

have amped up computer with 12 gigs of ram and an XFX Video card 2gb, , quad core processor, 600 watt Power Supply

I do some other stuff non flight sim , so that's why the 12 gigs of ram.

I'd say san francisco for em aswell, even tough Seattle with ORBX can be rather laggy aswell. ;)
Then again, my computer is horrible.

Strange San Fran even on my old PC worked very well , so well in fact that is where most of my videos were filmed LOL.
As far as airports I love the giant International airports because of all of the traffic within the airport and the giant planes that fly in and out of there.
Do you guys think the ORBX scenery has more of an impact than the stock scenery?
I do not have a lot of ORBX scenery but what I do have it actually seems to perform better than the stock.
Also have you guys ever used Tile Proxy to fly in ?
I actually loved that program the only thing I didn't like about it was when I would get withing like 1000 ft, everything became FLAT and was not pretty but at 3000ft and above it is absolutely jaw dropping !
and zero impact , my frame rates would jump 50-60 percent

Nope, I stay away from all that photo supposedly real scenery .

back in 2002 I had Mega Scenery and it basically made everything Flat, that's fine if all ya wanna do is Fly Boeings & Airbuses at 10,000 to 40,000 feet.

I'm into old Vintage Propliners ,like the Constellations by KBT Team, and the Electra L-188's, DC-4's DC6's DC3 , DC2's - CR1's Ford Tri Motors, mainly flying anywhere from 500 feet to 5000feet and higher depending on where I'm at.

The younger generation like all that glas cockpit in those Jets and push button stuff and Auto pilot and playing with switches and knobs,,, and letting the airplane just glide along on its own at 30,000 or whatever feet.

I like to see my Payware scenery little closer, to see what the developers took the time to put in there or hide , see some neat stuff at 500 to 1500 feet, won't see much of anything at 30 to 40,000 feet !

that and Quality Float planes are another aircraft I'm into

Jets, ya I got jets alright , one of the biggest collection of Vintage Old Jetliners from the 50's 60's 70's ya could have, lotta being 707's Captain Sim,,

Boeing 737-100 /200's lotta those from Cap Sim, Eric Canteau, Tin Mouse bout 175 of those

DC-10's / L-1011's some quality Freeware Russian Jetliners all kinds of Carenado Cessnas and Carenado beechcrafts,,,

got about 4800 Aircraft loaded into my sim.

Scenery mainly the west coast of the US, Alaska, The South pacific islands, Carribean scenery, South America scenery , Some Europe, Switzerland, Australia, few in China, Japan, quite few in Canada and the very upper North east regions.

got about 150 payware sceneries and somewhere around 300 freeware sceneries all over most for FSX few for 2004.

Venezula scenery developers are cranking out some really nicely detailed sceneries for that region tho.

I don't know about the program but the image you posted makes me curious to try it out because it looks awesome !
This is the video I just made of VRS superbug shooting down another aircraft in FSX over NYC, the frame rate stays consistent but I get intermittent stutters that do not effect the controls of the airplane and I am hoping the SSD will get rid of that.

Before the new video card I was absolutely unable to fly in NYC, my airplane would receive inputs like every other second and was all but un controlable :)
I'll try to post the link here and see if it shows up

I wish I'd never read this post...

So I loaded up the 'Bug and the tac pack, and went to fly around ol' La Guardia airport and Manhattan.

Guess what?

CRUNCH! 6-7 FPS? What the...? And I get a green banner at the top like the ATIS one giving an error message "Reduce the amount of AI traffic (more than 1000 SimConnect requests)". Anybody else using the tac pack or the SuperBug see that message? I'm going to VRS to see what that means. I forgot that this is why I stopped flying it.

Now to see why the helicopter I only get single FPS...

I get the same error message when I go with full sliders all the way to the right
I close FSX and restart it with the settings i want and the message goes away, strange . . . .

That was the Supergug with Tac Pac enabled in the video, I don't have any Captain sim , I use PMDG for my 747-400 and 747-8i and VRS Simulations Superbug with Tac Pac to fire missiles and drop bombs on targets .

The reason I used this airplane {The Superbug with Tac Pac } is because it by it's self chews up soooo much resources that I wanted to test it in a part of the world that for my old PC would have brought it to it's knees if I tried it, I would have been under 10 FPS, here she stays a steady 30-32 but I still get that intermittent shimmy I am confident will go away when I install the SSD,If I lower the AI traffic to 60 Pct it goes away .

My system is such that I just can't run with all of my sliders to the right; however, by following NickN's guide and some fsx.cfg hacks, I can usually get a smooth 25fps in most metropolitan areas.

But I just can't do London, especially over central London (O2 Arena, Parliament, basically anything along the Thames). Approaching 27L and 27R at LHR is a chore, and LCY is a rare sight in my flight logs.

I tried all of those tweaks they have never really done anything and some have even made things worse.

High Mem fix is a good one and the affinity mask is a good one that will be entirely different for everyone even if two users have the same CPU I've found
So right now those are the only two tweaks I have applied after re-installing FSX and acceleration, tweaks I do mess around with however are within my services that are running , I have been by process of trail and error been gradually been turning off certain services and then running FSX to see if everything runs well with it off,if so then I keep it off then move on to the next one and so on and so on.

It is a drag and it is unfortunate that we have to go through this , but FSX is such a great program it is worth all the trouble and the money LOL Obviously <<t
