Looking for Beaver Ponds

Goodly afternoon all...

Bored from being confined inside with a sore left foot I decided to start up the Microsoft FSX Game and go looking for some Beaver Ponds with ice on them to do a couple of touch and goes in one of my favourite real aircraft and FSX simulated aircraft.

Windows 7 and Microsoft FSX
Location: Southern Ontario, Canada
Season: Winter
Time: Sunrise
A few snow squalls in the area and the sun was starting to rise...

Dang good 3 Pointer...


Last two are climb out to go around for a second Touch and Go...Practice makes Perfect...

Nic pix! thanks for posting them!. May I ask, tho, why is the environment pink in two of them? I've seen the weather do odd things to the sky colors in the past, but pink is a definate rarity!

Also, is it that the plane doesn't use the mixture control knob on the throttle quadrant, or do you just like to run REALLY lean on the mixture? In the pictures I can see it in, it's all the way down....

Good morning Pat...

I think the pink comes from the red sky in the morning and somehow it shows that pink colour. Don't know why.

When I set time for a Dawn Flight I usually set it several minutes prior to Sunrise. Not sure if that has something to do with it or not.

This is the first time I did not like the ice texture on the Beaver Pond. It did not show nearly as good as it usually does.

If you Download the Auster Aircraft from the FSX Download Section you will see that with the Mixture Control... Lean is Full Forward to the Firewall and Rich is at the bottom of the console.
Throttles work normal that being Full Forward is Full RPM.

Many European Aircraft have Engine Controls which work opposite of what we are used to on the North American Continent...

Thanx Doug, I was just wondering. I didn't know all that about the Euro-bird's controls being bass-ackwards. Seems counter-intuitive to me, but maybe they grab at controls in emergencies, instead of going forward on them, like we do. I dunno When I get into a tight spot, I would think all controls going thru the firewall would be instinctive....

Just a couple of other things some of us Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers talk about.

Many British Aircraft which my parents and friends flew including some of those Old Retired Rocking Chair Flying Geezers the switches worked opposite of our switches for example UP for ON and DOWN for OFF or UP for OFF and DOWN for ON...

The Auster Aircraft also had several engine up grades and some of the cockpits had the PUSH IN and PULL OUT Engine Controls on the dash much like the Cessna 172 or 150.
Other Auster Aircraft had the Throttle Control as a PUSH IN and PULL OUT on the dash like the mentioned Cessna's but the Mixture Control remained in it's own console like in the above pictures of this post.

Wish I could find a site or link which showed cockpits of aircraft from 1909 to present...would be quite interesting...

The Auster we owned was previously owned by one of my grand parents... and the only reason we sold it was the family outgrew the aircraft.
Days I had off from aviating the Old Girl and I would pack up the kids and go camping, yes all four seasons. The family got so large we could not afford an aircraft actually large enough to carry us or our camping gear...

All and all the Auster was one of our favorite's...
