Back to FS9

Postby loomex » Sat Jan 25, 2014 9:26 am

After having so many issues with getting FSX to install, I put FS9 on my machine. I now need to rebuild my files for this sim. I need to know what are the "must have" files are for the sim. I have the 9.1 update. All the F&Q for FS9 links do not work. I do have AFCAD for 2004 and Editvoice pack.

Two main things which made my FS 2004 come alive and really enjoyable were:

Payware:
FS Global. Scenery mesh (FS 2004).
Ultimate Terrain USA, (and Europe). (FS 2004).

...all the rest were Freeware bits and bobs for my favourite places.

Paul....FS 2004 and FSX... :D ...

P.S...sorry to hear about your FSX troubles, Loomex....My FSX installation runs a real treat, with no problems!
(Installed directly onto my "C" Drive...NOT Program Files!).
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

What does amaze me is that there are still files being made for the FS9!

Hello Loomex!....

FS 2004 is still the tops for Freeware and Payware files to be found!... ...!

Most of my favourite Aircraft and Scenery files for my FSX are only found in the FS 2002 and FS 2004 Library!

You cant go wrong with FS 2004!... ;) ...!

To be fair, it's my personal opinion that FS9 is far better that FSX. The amount of freeware available for FS9 outnumbers FSX 5 to 1 (approx.), it runs faster, smoother and with less problems. Ok, FSX looks much better, has virtual cockpits that can be moved to other planes and maybe the flight characteristics are a bit better and more realistic. But in the end, FS9 still is a very good simulator. I use it for all my low and slow flights, where I use FSX for all my commercial jet flights.

One of the best things is that I can now fly the three planes I made...The EB-52i 4-engine and eight engine version and the YB-60 I made but never released

FSUIPC v3.9.9.9, and, if you like to drive a large collection of parts flying loose formation about the sky (helicopters), HTR v1.5. Those are two I can't live without. TCAS v1.7 is nice too! FS Navigator, ChartMap, FSEdit, AirEd and CFGEditor if you enjoy fine-tuning your aircraft, and for the Military enthusiast, ArCab v2.6, 3rdWire, and all the various carrier addons are vital.
If you like teaking the scenery, Afcad Editor, and RWY12 object placer, with all it's libraries are critical. EZScenery and SBuilder are real nice to have too, and some add-on sceneries require their libraries to be viewed properly...
If you like add-on adventures/flightplans, the collection of Dougherty's Difficult and Dangerous Approaches rocks, as does the Around The World flight adventure.

Ok, I'll stop there... :hand:

Good luck and have lotsa fun!

Pat☺
Have fun, fly high, far, and free!

..and yet another beauty of FS 2004....

After having had loads of fun with the wonderful, very fast, very slippery, GA, piston prop, the Cessna 182 RG in my FS 2002 and FS 2004, one can quickly find that there is no such model designed for FSX!
...and, today, I thought I would search for a similar model for FSX; the Cessna 210 Centurion (with retractable gear)...

Again, no such luck, unless one wishes to purchase the model....$$$$$$..... from Carenado!

When one runs FSX, one quickly realises just how few "Freeware" aircraft, etc, are available for FSX!

So, at the moment I an using the Freeware FS 2004 Cessna 210 Centurion in my FSX....>>> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... 0&x=10&y=8
Outside (spot) view OK.
Inside view; excellent 2D panel but no views of/from the interior...and no VC Panel....
..but not to worry, as I mainly use the 2D panel for access to ALL the instruments during flight

But it just goes to show, if you want to use ALL your favourite Freeware aircraft, then most of the time they will only be available for FS 2004!

There are many times that miss all my lovely FS 2000/FS 2002/FS 2004 Freeware aircraft every time I fire up my FSX!

When it come to Freeware aircraft, etc, be very glad that you still have your trusty copy of FS 2004 safe and secure on your Hard Drive!.... :D ...!

CFS 2 is well worth trying, Loomex....
I think it was/is more popular than CFS 3, for some reason or other.

I can remember spending many happy hours with my Sim V Chums in CFS 2 Multiplayer, in the old Dial-up Internet days!

Paul....with CFS 2... :D ...!

There's plenty of choice if you look around. More & more aircraft with "FSX native" models are being released for us to try. FSX is not dead yet by a long chalk.

I've had a lot of fun over the last few years converting fs9 aircraft to display in FSX. Some are more successful than others but many are perfectly acceptable after a little work. Your little gyrocopter was one of the unsuccessful examples. I only do this for my own use as I can't be fussed with all the restrictions on modifying & uploading "Freeware files" these days. Once you understand a few basics it's not difficult. I've been going through my old screenshots & might post a few now the image limit has been increased.

I am getting to love the magnificent scenery in my FSX, especially now I have finally got a "super-computer!" able to display it at maximum settings....

..but I really do miss all the multitude of aircraft, etc, that I have got familiar with, in the various earlier versions of the Flight Sim over the years...and are not available in FSX at the moment...and probably wont be!

Some of them work automatically...but with various bits and pieces missing, or not appearing, so it can be disappointing..... :( ...!

I can generally fix the gauges problem with my FS Panel Studio, but the missing aircraft model "textures" cant (easily) be overcome (by me!).

Paul.

With missing textures it's generally a case of tweaking the Alpha Channel. Give me a couple of examples & I'll see what I can do.

Give this one a try, Doug....

Its one to replace the FS 2002/2004 Cessna 182RG for my FSX...>>>

Cessna 210 http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... 0&x=10&y=8

The interior textures are missing?

(They are normally included in most of the FS 2004 Aircraft.....in the panel folder?).

Paul.

The alternative is the PAYWARE version from Carenado!.... :o ....(I don't buy Aeroplanes!).... ;) ....!

P.S!...just downloading the Photo-real Panel File from Brett...that may cure the missing interior textures!...>>> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1 ... 0&x=10&y=8
May have to be careful with the gauges!.... ;) ...1
