At Last!!!!!!!!!

Postby G.K. » Wed Jan 08, 2014 11:00 am

..............like Fozzer I have a rig that'll do FSX Justice nearly 8yrs after I bought the damn thing. I've heard of future proof but crikey this is taking it to the extreme.

Snuck out and got a cheapish graphic card today, just to complete the ensemble. A GT640 2 gig, not a crash hot card but I figured it would do the business. I've installed UTX Europe, Ultimate Traffic 2, Tongass Fjords plus a few other add on airports courtesy of the Simviation library. I've reinstated the original config because I wasn't happy with the online Auto tweak tool results, I've thoroughly read NickN's stuff and applied a few tweaks alongside installing Nvidia inspector c/w the recommended adjustments.........It Flies!!!!!!!!!

Other significant tweaks were: Cleaning my glasses and the screen, I mock ye not, it made a difference :D My eyesight is deteriorating so screen res is an issue. If I have it at optimum for the system I can't read the red info text which I like to have on. If I have my desktop at that res it's a struggle too.

Most sliders are maxed out apart from the terrain mesh complexity, cloud draw distance and water and road vehicles. Bloom and lens flair unchecked.

No blurries, smooth with good FRP in nearly all situations........The exceptions being UT2 limited. If I have 100% traffic at international airports it slows down to a jerky framerate. Tolerable but not brilliant. If I use the Los Angeles int download (available here at Simviation) it becomes intolerable.....

......but what the hell I'm more than happy, it looks so good now and there is room on my mobo for future upgrades on the processor and graphics card.

.....job done at last.

Same here!!!!

Just got a new desktop and for the first time since I bought FSX when it debuted, I can run it well!!

Albeit it is still more sensitive and moody than my wife

So FS9 is still sitting on my hard drive and is still used O0
I will say that on this new desktop FS9 with all my mods looks bloody wonderful, is very smooth always, and is very stable....unlike my wife.... okay so that last remark may not be true....
Have to say something about her. Now she puts up with a recent and un-employed college grad sitting in the living room every night on flight sims

Adam...aircraft design by morning.....job search by day....flight sim by night :D

Well done G.K.... :D ...!

A nice, spanking-new, speedy Computer makes all the difference to enjoying the delights of FSX!.... ...!

I haven't applied any "tweaks" at all, to my FSX.

Display settings:
Global Settings=Ultra High. 1280x1024x32
Frame rate: Locked, 25FPS (Required for Multiplayer!).
Aircraft: Exterior settings all ticked..(shadows=important!).
Scenery: All settings maxed, except Mesh=38m. and Texture=1m.
Weather: Custom, sensible, realistic settings, with sensible distance.
Traffic: Custom, sensible settings in the air and on the ground/water.

With these setting selections the sim flies SMOOTHLY everywhere, and is a real dream!

Paul...Having fun!.... ...!

The 1GB of ddr3 ram that comes on that card does make a difference, even though you describe it as a "cheapish graphic card"

Being able to move most of the sliders to the right does make it so much more fun. :D

I seem to be in the minority. My AI traffic is almost all the way to the left. I don't really care what's up in the sky.

But my road traffic is set to about 40%. I want my world to look active and lived in.

The bad news, is that now that you're able to have all the eye candy, you'll start spending more money. :D

These are basic Orbx UK & Wales. MUCH nicer to fly over than basic FSX.

Hope you find a job soon Wahubna. I too have been through many versions of flight sim, I never kept any of them once I'd upgraded. I seem to remember my first was one for the ZX81 or maybe the Spectrum, all the land was one solid colour all the sky was one shade of blue. Thought it was the mutts nuts at the time.

Thanks Fozzer. Didn't know Multiplayer was restricted to 25 fps. Never tried multiplayer although I have an idea for it. Last year in a dull part of the year I constructed a flyable AIM sidewinder, very quick but with limited range. I thought it might be fun to try and shoot somebody down in multiplayer...collisions switched on and the other person has to see how long they can avoid.........Not sure how it would play though.

Oldairmail: Nice shots 8-) ....and yep, I'm already working out what I want next, could be an expensive year for FSX.

Here's a shot from one of the Tongass Fjord airfields, I won one of the Simviation screeny comps a couple of years ago and Tongass was the prize, very nice it is too. Thanks Simviation. I didn't use this DC3 on the old machine because the AA on the old card wasn't good enough. I couldn't have all the scenery switched on with Tongass either....no problem now.

Very nice, G.K.

Once you can crank up the scenery you do tend to start spending more money and time on it.

With OpusFSX Weather, Orbx FTX Global, UK, Wales, Scotland, and Australia, I sometimes find myself flying along a road or river for an hour or two just enjoying the view.

Before that I used to just fly from point A to point B, and that was the end of it.

..don't forget, G.K... ;) ....

....if you are heavily into shooting and bombing anything that moves, there's always trusty old CFS 2 (Combat Flight Simulator 2)...

..It still works a treat, Solo or Multiplayer!
We all had loads of fun with it in the old Dial-up-Internet days!... ....!
