Not just right...

Postby Flying Trucker » Fri Dec 13, 2013 4:13 pm

Afternoon all... <<u

Well we have some snow on the ground here, not enough but an inch at least.

The river and bay are partially frozen.

Thought I would do a half hour trip in a light twin and try to make Blowing Snow look realistic during the simulated flight.

The attempt was a flop, I can not seem to get Blowing Snow to look realistic in Microsoft FSX.

I was in the Lockheed C130 Simulator not long ago and Blowing Snow looks like Blowing Snow...

Perhaps it is time I replaced this boat anchor, dang I hate to spend any money right now as the children tell me things will be cheaper after Christmas.

Perhaps I should pickup a Christmas Tree?

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)

"...dang I hate to spend any money right now as the children tell me things will be cheaper after Christmas."

I use to believe that story about post Christmas sales when I was younger too. Like 2 years ago. :D

It does make some since. After all, don't the stores want to get rid of their leftover inventory?

Well, it didn't work for the Saitek stuff that I bought. I had to wait a long time for "summer" sales.

The same seems to be true even for software.

Thanks for the replies... <<q

I just will not buy something like a shirt for example several days prior to Christmas when Boxing Day it is 40% OFF and then in January the same shirt is 60% off.

There should be a law about these things...if you can sell it for 60% OFF two weeks after Christmas than you can sell it for that price prior to Christmas.

The Black Friday sales here were a disaster, the savings they bragged about were few and far between. One had to know their prices.

One of our son's and grandson say they will build me a motion simulator when they finish their unit.

That is another reason I don't want to spend money, I would probably throw a wrench into whatever they are going to do.

Oh well...FSX...here I come again...

Nice screens! Not sure what snow whipping past your aircraft at 100+ mph should look like. Those look pretty heavy and wet, though.

Well spoken Kurt...you are absolutely right... ;)

Often forget I am playing on a Microsoft Flight Simulator Game and not in a real aeroplane or multi-million dollar flight simulator...

Can not get the old girl to rock my computer chair and make aircraft engine sounds during all my simulated flights...I told her Christmas was just around the corner and she had better pull up her girdle...you got an extra room Kurt?....

Hi RSorochak... <<s

It is difficult to describe unless you have been in a cockpit during an inclement weather flight. The commercial flight simulators or military simulators show severe weather nicely and also mix in the sound.

In a Douglas DC3 for example you can hear the ice hitting the fuselage off the props just behind the cockpit seats. The windows will usually ice over until the approach and you had better hope Number One checked the de-icing fluid level...

In a single radial engine aircraft or a light single like the Cessna 172 the prop will usually keep the windscreen clean during a flight in light rain or snow, flight during icing or severe snow and rain storms one should be on the ground unless the aircraft has de-icing equipment and the aviator has an Instrument Rating.

In Microsoft FSX the weather intensity for rain and snow can not be regulated. At least I do not know how to do that.

I have not used REX Plus in some time but perhaps I should take another look at that, perhaps there are several setting that could be adjusted there.
