"Temperatures have plunged to -29C in parts of the US as a deadly cold snap...."

Are you saying that you think -20c is cold???

My last year in Minnesota we had one day where the air temperature, NOT THE WINDCHILL, was -40c (which also happens to translate to -40F).

Minus -10 to -20F is fairly common. Every morning I unplugged the engine block heater. And every night I plugged it back in.

The tires would develop a "flat spot" from sitting on the ground over night. As you started driving in the morning it would take about 1 to 2 miles (depending on how cold it was) for the flat spots on all 4 tires to warm up and drive right.

It took me about 25 years (after moving away from Minnesota) before I thought that a 30F day was a very cool day.

Are you feeling better now, Mr. Jetranger? :D

Its always the thought of that "cold" which always keeps me away from the upper reaches of the USA+Alaska and Canada in my Flight Simulation Explorations..
Rather like the humble Butterfly, I am a warm weather creature, preferring the warmth of the semi-tropical regions.

I am still surprised that the ice-cold snap extended down as far south as Texas, near the Gulf of Mexico, an area I always think of as being warm, if not hot!

The Pacific S.W. USA climate seems to suit my daily North America explorations....providing that I ignore the frequent earthquake possibilities... ...!

P.S... I hate the cold!... ...!

Don't worry about those silly earthquakes.

Just keep that autogiro outside the bedroom for a quick getaway.

Actually, I have been spending some time today chuffing around Utah (Mormon Country) in my little Xenon Gyroplane, after watching the U-Tube training videos of "Airgyro Aviation*" at Spanish Fork (U77), and it can be surprisingly cold there at certain times of the year!
Fortunately....I always select warm/hot Mid-Summer, and clear blue skies, during my excursions...(wherever I am!)... :D ...
