Fatal Error

Postby Bubblehead » Wed Dec 04, 2013 11:00 am

When playing the game my PC often crashes particularly when I'm on the outside view (looking at the aircraft) It does not happen immediately but if on a long flight and I stay on the Outside View I get this warning: Microsoft Flight Simulator FSX. A fatal error has occurred. Window is collecting solutions about the problem. However, when I stay on the inside view (looking at the panel) the game is OK. Also when flying short runs like going touch and go no problem. But once I go on the outside view especially when cruising, after a short period the fatal error occurs. Spec on my PC as follows: 3.5 GHz processor, 32 G Ram, Nvidia GeForce GT 630 4GB DDR3, Win7 Ultimate 64 Bit. Any ideas how to correct this? Any setting adjustments I need to change?

Thanks

What is the exact timing?

Start a stopwatch & note down the time that you start the game. Take off & switch to an outside view (where you can see the plane). Note down the time that you get the warning.

Restart the computer to clear any bad memory.

Start a stopwatch & note down the time that you start the game. Switch to an outside view, but do not take off. Did the game stop with the same warning? Was it at the same time as when flying?

I don't think that it'll matter if the engines are running, but you may want to try it both ways.

Sounds more like FSX is crashing - not your actual PC? Looking at your system you should be able to run FSX at max settings no problem.

I get regular crashes -- but then I have 100's of addons and some situations make it crash. Has always been this way as far as I remember back to FS2000.

What I've always done is start in a new area and a new aircraft -- then go back to the aircraft I was using when it crashed. Then if it crashes again I can assume it's the aircraft and either fix it (usually some unnecessary file in there that is causing the problem and easy to fix) or delete the aircraft if I can't fix it (in which case I would also remove the file from simviation and contact the uploader).

A little more specific info would help. What scenery if you're using any addons, aircraft, etc

.... & don't let windows look for a solution .... you would be better off asking your old neighbour to look for a solution. :P

I pick up sceneries at random normally from the list in the Flight Planner. Examples are: SAN to SFO, SAN to LAX and a few overseas. I also pick any aircraft at random both default and add-ons. When I fly out of any of the airfields around San Diego, I don't have any problems. I normally encounter this error when I go on a long flight and at cruising altitude I select the Outside View. I tried going on a long flight but kept the inside cockpit (panel) view and never encountered the problem until during my approach I pressed the W key which showed the outside view and after a while the error occurred. Most of the aircraft I was using were commercial jets. I'll try it with prop jobs and fighter jets.

I too just suffered the same senario however slightly differant, anytime the menu was opened "fatal Error" restart. The web is full of causes and fixes nothing worked. Last attemt, reinstalled windows 7 64 bit...installed FSX gold acc. and immediately crash..Some point out UIAutomationCore ,dll as problem tried them al,l giving up after enjoying Flt Sim since edition Flt 95 long years ago...maybe window 8.1 will workWinows 7-64 is inconsistant, dosnot work for all... nobody seemsknows why.....including Microsoft.

This may be a waste of my time suggesting it, but you could try running SFC /SCANNOW.

I say a waste of time because you DO need to know what you are doing to use it.

If you can't understand how to use it, print out the page/link and take it to a good repair shop, not the place that you've been using.

My bet that if you run SFC /SCANNOW form an elevated command prompt you will find one or more problems.

Try to find the log file on the crash in Administrate Tools. It could tell you the courses/error ID!

I see you got plenty of ram, but anyway, what is your virtual memory settings compared to your psysical memory!? (Eating programs and windows can act strange due to this).

have you tried any cfg tweaks ?

these 2 tweaks deal with how your avail memory is used.

Sorry to hear this -- however it strikes me you may be looking for the complex solution when it may have been something more simple. Reinstall of W7 is fairly drastic! (did it ever run on your system?)

1. I never go to MS for a solution --- they have never worked for me -- nor has 'do you want windows to search for a solution to this problem?' - NO! :P

2. It may have been a simple memory or other issue ..... maybe if you reinstall in a different location (not \program files\) -- keep it as a fresh install and see how it runs.

Take a look at your memory (ram) - see this - http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000149.htm#0

I hate to see someone give up! I've been using FS since before MS days (& before that with VERY simple dots to land on in a primative computer).

[BufferPools]
PoolSize=0

this forces fsx to actually USE the 4 gig of video memory you have. verses useing the system memory
(not recomended for low memory cards).

wouldn't be his Graphics card / Video Card giving him problems would it ????

I've seen it happen before.

video cards and memory, will do that.

"..."my PC often crashes particularly when I'm on the outside view (looking at the aircraft) It does not happen immediately but if on a long flight ..."

"...Also when flying short runs like going touch and go no problem..."

So the longer he fly's, the more likely it is that he'll have a problem.

Unfortunately, it could be many things;
Are his fans working.
The fans may be working, but are clogged.
The fans may be working, but something is overheating anyway. If we knew how long it takes before he has this problem, that would help.

That applies to the video card, the motherboard, and the power supply.

If his FPS drops under certain conditions, he may be stressing his system. Couple that with an underpowered power supply....

Memory can have a bad memory address. As his demands increase he may be using more memory. And then when his memory usage reaches a certain point, the bad address that doesn't usually get reached while surfing the net, rears it's ugly head and something crashes.

SFC /SCANNOW is used to find, and often fix, protected Windows system files. In trying to resolve an ongoing problem, I recalled that a long time ago I had used SFC /SCANNOW to resolve a network problem.

But remember it I did, and a couple of nights ago I found a corrupted (protected) system file. My system is now working at the speed that it should. Probably 30% faster than it had been.

It's possible that Bubblehead is calling a corrupted file (T2embed.dll in my case).

Strange but no one mentioned anything about lowering the settings. Some settings, such as Autogen, affect the performance. Should I try placing the settings to the minimum and see if I still experience the problem.

Pete thanks for concern, explanation: I ran FSX for sometime on XP with deluxe edition, recently I had a fairly high end machine built with good quality resources AMD 7800 HD intel i5, 3.8 gig memory 750 watts power on an on... New Edition of windows 7 64 bit and straight out of the box Gold edition, installed to an immediate crash, numerous attempts at correction through many web sites, Googled myself to boredom no results, just in case reinstalled windows, very carefully reinstalled FSX + Acc. immediate crash on open menu in cockpit. Can start the default flight but can not touch any menu items, DSS 150 for memory, you can tell I'm not a computer whiz, I just so enjoyed the sim....I see by other posts numerous people have experienced this same mess.... Ireally won"t give up just super frustrated.

Well, that's something that you can easily find out in a few minutes.

Record what your setting are now

Do what you know will make it crash. You now have a base line.

Move ALL of the settings down as low as they'll go.

Do what you know will make it crash. Did it Crash? Let us know.

If that fixed it, start moving the settings up ONE AT A TIME to what they had been.
