Scottish Police EC-135 Crashes into pub.

Postby SG-19 » Sat Nov 30, 2013 7:49 am

Shocking news all over the UK. Last night Nov 29 at approx 22.25hrs a Police Scotland EC-135 with two police officer's and a civilian pilot, crashed onto the roof of a pub alongside the river Clyde in Glasgow. One person was confirmed as a fatality this morning and more may be possible as the pub was full with a live band performing at the time. For more details check online at the BBC News web site. It's just amazing that no fire broke out or the death toll would have been horrendous with well over 120 people having a night out in the bar. To comment on possible cause of the crash at this time would be wrong as rescue and recovery is still ongoing.

Very sad, indeed. All such accidents are tragedies and it is impossible to truly know the pain and grief that now must be endured. After 24 years as a professional fixed wing pilot and another 24 years as a professional helicopter pilot, it is an especially unhappy event for me: though I was never involved in such an accident, I lost too many friends to the inherent risks of aviation.

But we will continue. Causes will be found, changes will be made and others will eventually benefit. I think it is called the terrible price of progress.

Hello Flexible, and welcome in here ;)

Its so good to have a helo specialist among us, and i know CHUCK has a great interest in flying those.

About the accident. Yes, very sad indeed. I've seen on the news, that one in the near neighbourhood told, that the helo were flying very low, and it had a strange engine sound just before it crashed!!

Terrible news.

I always worry when I see Helicopters flying very low around buildings in heavily populated areas....
It always seems like an accident waiting to happen.

In addition to my original post, it is sad that I am now updating to death toll of this accident. All three crew members perished along with eight persons inside the public house. My thoughts are with all who knew them and loved them especially with the approaching holidays.
