FSX or CH Pro Pedals problem??

Postby cardinalbrian » Thu Nov 14, 2013 6:04 pm

With Windows 7 x64... Hadn't run FSX for a few weeks. Tried last week and my add-on Cessna 177RG was uncontrollable. Found the Pro Pedals wouldn't Calibrate well through the FSX Controller route. Replaced the pedals. Same problem, but the pedals Calibrate perfectly. At start-up at the end of the runway the pedals work correctly, clearly viewed with the rear view hat switch. After releasing brakes, about 2 seconds down the runway the bird swerves uncontrollably to the right and the rudder is "stuck" full right! Situation is repeatable. Any suggestions?

Does it only occur with the Cessna 177RG, or with ALL the aircraft in your hangar?

Had a similar problem and discovered I'd saved the flight with the autopilot on and in "Heading" mode. You might check that.

Make sure that the auto pilot is not set to heading or like another post stated that you saved the flight with auto pilot on. and in heading mode.
If none of the above work about the only other thing is to rename your FSX cfg file to FSX.bak DO NOT DELETE THE FILE just rename it FSX will build a new file that should clear it up. Than all you have to do is to compare the old file with the new one and see what has changed. Be aware that you will loose all of your custom settings as well as your starting airport if you had one. But all you have to do is to copy the necessary lines from the old version. Which is why you do not want to delete it. What I do is once I am happy with all of the settings I make a copy of the FSX cfg file and put it where i can find it easily than If I have problems all I have to do is to substitute files and the problem is fixed.

Thanks! I checked the autopilot and all switches are set OFF. I'll try garymbuska's CFG suggestion. I thought maybe the .cfg file's "range" setting" for the axis might have gotten skewed, but how is a mystery. The pedals work fine in CFS1. Actually, I did make it to the runway once in my Cardinal with the autopilot (single axis) on NAV TRK, but I was able to wrestle it under control until I recognized the problem!

The same problem occurred with a stock C172..

garymbuska, The only "rudder" associated entry I could find in the C177RG Aircraft directory's .cfg file was for keyboards. In all the years since FSX came out I've never had to fiddle with .cfg files (as opposed to CSF1, CSF2, and the older FSes) so I find FSX a bit confusing. Are there other .cfgs I should be looking at? Other items? Suggestions?
The entry that I did find (under Keyboard) had values 200,1000 but I have no idea what they pertain to.
I did check the "dynamic settings" for the autopilot when I paused the off runway excursion across the airport and all switches were OFF.

Have you tried to calibrate the peddles while using the aircraft. Is Fsx seeing the peddles??

garymbuska, At the beginning of the session I can look out the back and see the rudder operating correctly. It corrects for p-effect as I start down the runway. Then locks up in a full right turn (rudder left) position. Last time I paused after I left the runway and checked the calibration: perfect. I then flew an RAF Mission in CSF and landed the Hurricane without any problems. It appears the problem is in the FSX/controller interface. I uninstalled and reinstalled FX and Accelerator after I downloaded the latest CH controller. The problem persisted. Thank you for the reply.

I use ch products stick, throttle and pedals with fsx and p3d
fsx likes to assign rudder axis to multiple controllers used together.

for example, default install sets rudder to my pedals AND the throttle wheel on my stick.

check the control assignments in game settings and make sure your stick/yoke or any other devices
dont have rudder assigned to any device or axis other than your pedals.

Capt_Cronic, I've seen that. But my current assignments show rudder only on the pedal Z axis and the throttle on the joystick slider. BTW, how is p3d? Did LM remove the "variable" features (runways, navaids) from the engine so they can be updated? I'm an LM retiree, so I'll probably get it. Would that solve this controller interface problem? Thanks for the replay.

delete the rudder assignment on your stick throttle slider (z axis on stick)
thats what happened to me.

P3D is well worth it. I'm very pleased. lots of performance improvements, much more stable, no crashes or glitches (yet)
all my payware aircraft and scenery work great (some requires custom instalation methods fot p3d)
I only use fsx for testing purposes now.

Capt_Cronic, The rudder assignment on the stick (slider) was deleted many tries back. Which of the p3d offerings do you have? I think the "Academic" one looked the best to me. Thanks for the reply.

I have the pro version 1.4
I dont know what differences there are between pro and academic other than the splash screen.

Capt_Cronic, The p3d Professional License is $199 and the Academic License is $49. There's very little in the Prepar3D site to explain any functional difference between the 2. I guess the safe bet is to just spend the bucks! My computers will handle either without a problem. I can probably get p3d installed before I sort out this FSX problem anyway.

When I am flying FSX and taxing on the ground you can see the rudder move left and right but once you are airborne you no longer see it move but the effects are still there. I just dismissed the issue and figured it was supposed to work that way. I thought it was a model problem .
If you want to see a strange effect try holding full left or right rudder during take off. You will see the rudder full left or right until the wheels leave the ground then the rudder goes to neutral and no longer moves. I do not know why it works this way but it does this in both FSX and FS9.
