Not enough memory

Postby Flying Trucker » Mon Nov 11, 2013 9:23 pm

Good evening all...

Starting to think I should Delete this Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Scenery.

I am getting a Bell Sound as soon as the simulated flight starts and then a screen tells me I am out of memory.....Impossible...

I have 168 GB of Free Space.

I tried other airports in New York State with no problems.

Tried several other locations also...no problem.

Could there be an easy solution to this or should I Delete the Scenery?

Thanks...
Cheers...Happy Landings...Doug

This has nothing to do with space on your hard drive even if you had 3TB free you could still get the same message.
It is telling you that you do not have enough RAM
The new scenery you installed is more detailed than any other scenery that you have which is why you do not have problems in those areas.
The rule of thumb here is no matter weather you are installing scenery or aircraft the more detailed it is the more RAM it will need to display it.
One has to remember that if you have a 32 bit operating system the most ram it can see is about 3.4 gig out of 4gig which is the most you can install on a 32 bit system. Even if you were able to put 8 gigs of ram on the mother board your system will only see 3.4 gig if you are lucky. That is just the way it works. My key reason to update to a 64 bit system it does not have this limitation I can put 32 gigs of 2400 hz ram and my system will see every bit of it. No pun intended. All you can do in this case is to lower the sliders on your graphics I would start with the auto gen as that eats most of your RAM.

What poster failed to mention is that even with a 64 bit operating system and 16 gig of ram FSx being a 32 bit operating system can still only use 4, but it gives windows room to breath. Generally an out of memory issue is due to Virtual Address Space. VAS for short, have a google and read than you may understand the issue.

I hate to inform you that FSX is not a 32 bit operating system. I am sure you meant to say FSX is a 32 bit program.
What you said here is true and this could be part of the problem. But I normally would not offer that kind of information as I have no way of knowing what the skill level of the person making the post has. I think one should not alter the virtual space that windows needs unless they know what they are doing. As you can create more problems than what it is worth. Using two much space for windows can slow down a program to a crawl and this is something you would not want with FSX.
I am a firm believer in the K I S S method Keep It Simple Stupid. 8-)

Thanks Gary again... ;)

The computer is set to the recommended settings for Virtual Memory. Had a little help doing it.

Not a computer literate person myself I rely on others to help me out.

The KISS principal is probably the best, learned that a long time ago when aviating... ;)

I find adjusting the sliders once in the Microsoft Flight Simulator (FSX) Game is a bit of a pain but it works when using Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Scenery.

Again thanks for your help... ;)

What I do....

When using my FSX instead of my FS 2004, I put a cigarette packet* under the right-hand foot of my computer monitor.

This tilts the right-hand side upwards slightly, and allows all the FSX sliders to slide about half way down the slope, thereby dramatically increasing the Frame Rate of the program, but, unfortunately, also results in some pretty naff-looking scenery down below....
