Super Typhoon Haiyan Flying !

Wonder if anybody has fired up their Simulator to try to Fly in the 235 mph winds of "Super Typhoon Haiyan" ??

Those who have real world weather or what ever ya call it.

should be able to track the storms path as it heads out across the South China Sea, from the Phillipinees.

I find it so remarkably, arrogantly "American" that the news makes such a BFD (Big Fat Deal) out of hurricanes that may or may not graze the North American continent, causing the loss of a few lives, all of whom were warned well in advance to LEAVE THE AREA, vice the Pacific typhoons, which are, incidentally, much larger, more powerful, longer lived, and damaging to life and property. They also recceive very little news coverage, and the folks in the impacted countries seldom receive any advance notice of the impending storm. They simply don't have the information spreading capabilities Americans have.

Now, yes, I am American, and I love my country dearly, but we do have a few faults that we would do well to consider. Such as our attitude that what happens here is vastly more importantant than what may happen elsewhere. To me the loss of a thousand Philippinos, as an example, is just as if not moreso, tragic than the loss of a few tens, if that, of Americans to storm, earthquake, or whatever.
I was at Clark Air Base, PI, a couple years before Pinatubo blew it's nose all over it, and I found the area to be beautifull, lush, and green, and the people, away from the bars and so on of Angeles City, were simply wonderful, friendly, outgoing, and as curious about me as I was about them. I was very saddened to see it go away like that, altho the blast from St. Helens got SO much more coverage than Pinatubo's tantrum did.

"News" is a local story. I doubt the people in the Philippines pay more attention to us, than we do them. The same for those in India, Argentina, Sweden, Nepal, etc..

Can you even name the city that was hit when Typhoon Phailin slammed into India last month?

Probably not without looking it up. You probably can't even tell us what side of India it came aground on; south, east, or west.

How arrogant is it to condemn an entire population. And not to simply condemn them, but to say that even the extent of their arrogance is so remarkable.

I didn't try it with Typhoon Haiyan. But I did with 2 other hurricanes. I think that the problem is that the airports METARs are shut down before the hurricanes are at their closest, and the winds are at their highest.

And the flight sim weather comes from the METARs.

At any rate, aside from getting fairly decent heavy cloud cover with REX Essentials or Opus FX, the high winds just weren't there. It could easily be a setting, somewhere, that wasn't correct.


REX Essentials, in particular, is interesting because it will pull up old historical weather conditions. Opus FX will only go back about 24 hours, if I remember correctly.

Perhaps I should go back to hurricane Sandy using REX Essentials again.

Well, that was a bad wind/water one.

The news are talking about 10.000 dead in the Phillipinees and some areas totally destroyed!!

They now expect the Haiyan will slow down to a 2 or 3 before hitting Vietnam and China.

A stark reminder of just how vulnerable we all are to these regular, natural disasters, occurring all around the Planet!
The deadly effect of them often the result of our own stupidity in living in particular areas likely to be damaged!
....Wildfires, Floods, Earthquakes, etc...
