If you are using the standard edition of FSX once you get it installed you will need to download and install two service packs.
The Gold edition of FSX does not need the service packs as they are included
By default FSX should install on your main Hard drive which in most cases is the C drive making the default install location C:Program Files(86)/ Microsoft Games/FSX
During a install it should not be trying to read a file form your hard drive and from your original post that is what it appears to be doing.
When you installing are you running with Administrator rights IF not try that. Both Windows 7 and Windows 8 have permission problems so you have to be sure you are running using administrator rights. And you should always run this program using Administrator rights.
