Can't reinstall acceleration

Postby slimcooper2002 » Thu Oct 31, 2013 8:51 pm

Hi, my pc crashed a couple of weeks ago so I had to replace it. I'm now running
windows 7 sp1 32 bit
AMD Athlon(tm) 64x2 dual core processor 4400+ 2.31 ghz
2 gb ram
Nvidia GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430
On my old pc I had fsx w/ acceleration on a external hard drive. Seagate Backup Plus designated E:drive. Everything worked fine. When I tried to run it after the swap I got an error message saying the game couldn't find the msxml4.dll file. I tried downloading it with no luck, so I tried installing the game on my C drive since it doesn't let me pick the drive I want. After its installed on my C drive I copy and paste it to my E drive. That worked fine but I lost all my add-ons. Thats not so bad but when I try to install acceleration it says I must have the english version of fsx installed, which I do. The read me only goes as recent as Vista so thats of no use. I tried reinstalling fsx on the C drive then installing acceleration but still says I need english version

If this is a complete replacement computer, have you reinstalled your copy of Windows, all the necessary drivers, etc, and re-installed your copy of FSX, and any of its add-ons.?

"Copying and Pasting" things often results in problems!

Everything that you previously had, will require re-installing on your new computer again, to ensure that the Windows Registry on the Hard Drive is correct!

A brand new Windows computer system, with a brand new copy of FSX.... :D ...!

Best of luck.

Paul.... ...!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

I ran into the same "English" problem.

The solution is here - The poor mans sim pit - SOFTWARE - Service Pack instilation

Read it carefully a few times and do EXACTLY what it says. Don't do what you think that it says.

Thank you for the replies. I got a newer pc with windows 7 already installed, I had vista on my old machine.
I followed that thread and did exactly what it said. I opened regedit and went to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Microsoft Games\ Flight Simulator\ 10.0
edit/new/stringvalue and typed in E:\ProgramFiles\MicrosoftGames\MicrosoftFlightSimulatorX
it showed up on setup path like they said. I rebooted my machine, tried installing acceleration, and got the same message, "need english version"
This is a brand new system(used but reformatted with win 7), clean install as suggested here in the forums, and still cant get it to work.
FSX works fine by itself

If I recall, there are two ways to go, depending on whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit OS.

Sorry that it didn't work for you. On my 64 bit system it worked perfectly.

The key was doing it exactly as instructed, as opposed to what you think that the instructions meant. That was a trap that I nearly fell into.

After going through the procedure, Acceleration installed without any errors.

Before that, I had tried for over a week to find a solution. Nothing worked.

You do have one advantage. You said that this was a new Windows install. With only 2 or 3 weeks on the system, I'd recommend reformatting, and reinstalling Windows.

After all, you KNOW that you are having some problems now. What you don't know, is what other problems may crop up later.
