ASKING FOR ADVICE FS-X

Postby tommyhughes » Wed Oct 16, 2013 11:19 pm

Currently running Century of Flight. Want to consider moving up to the next version.
Here is my current setup:
AMD Phenom 9100e quad Core Processor
4.0 GB Memory
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphic Card
Gaming graphics-1918mb Total available graphics memory
401gb free disk
Windows Vista Home Premium

Looking at the FSX performance requirement, I think I can do it.
If so, what is the difference of FSX-FSXGold-with accelarator.

I am not a heavy use, mostly off than on, but with a little more free time available now, would like to get back into it again.
Any and all comments appreciated.

Hello Tommy... :D ...!

My advice would be...give it a try!

Your hardware is similar to mine (2005 vintage below!), and with a bit of careful settings on the sliders I can get FSX to run "reasonably" smoothly, with some very nice scenery graphics and effects!

FSX biggest demand is upon the Central Processor...as fast as you can get it!

It wont runs as silky-smooth as your FS 2004 does on its maximum settings.... :D ...but FSX can be run quite well with a bit of tweaking with the various settings!
Its well worth giving it a try!

Paul....FS 2004 and FSX Deluxe... ...!

P.S...I have also added "Ultimate Terrain USA" and ORBX "FTX Global" to bring the whole scenery below to life!... ...!

Like Fozzer said give it a try you will have to tweak the settings to get it to run smoothly. As stated FSX is a CPU and memory eating program. However you can still get good results after applying some tweaks the biggest thing you want to turn down are the trees and the autogen scenery.
I would recomend that you do not get any payware scenery as you will not be able to see the results intended
As for the difference between FSX deluxe and FSX gold there are a couple of big differences. With FSX deluxe you will have to download and install all of the service packs. The gold edition will have all of the service packs on it and it come with Acceleration which gives you a few extra missions and some aircraft as well as some other minor things. I ran FSX on a Pentium 3 CPU with 4 gigs of ram and with some tweaking I could get 10 to 20 FPS in most cases. As you can see by my signature I have updated my system and can now run FSX maxed out. Total cost of my new system was under $900.00
The biggest items were the CPU and the Motherboard both were over $300.00 each.
