spam attacks

Hi guys,

Well we've been having spam attacks again. I spent the best part of an hour cleaning up mess this morning only to come into this forum and find a rather rude posting about what a useless job we're doing as mods. I'd like to say a few things that certain persons need to read and think upon;
Pete does not make huge piles of money off this site.
The mods give their time freely to help run the site with no thought of reward, it isn't glamorous either! We don't even have a Christmas party.
You have the right to come here and post, however we do have rules and believe it or not we mods do have feelings.
For someone to have noticed one spam attack out of dozens we've recently dealt with shows we're doing a great job and do care about these forums and the users experience.
To have an obnoxious, whining post in the wrong forum and no effort made by the person concerned to see if a mod was online at the time of the attack and to alert them tells me how lazy, self-centered and inconsiderate some are. Get over yourself, you're not the centre of the universe and ingratitude is just a lack of manners.

Here in the US we have a law, of some kind, that is supposed to limit telephone spam.

That is unless you actually give them permission to do so.

I just received a credit card from the company that I work for, where I had to give them permission to spam me if they want. Otherwise I couldn't use the card. (More on that company after they lay me off in December.)



As to the recent spam flood, I thought that mods on the various boards could simply block/ban spammers?

As a Moderator on another non-flight-sim related Forum...

We identify them, delete them, and zap their IP Address, to prevent them logging back in under a different name.

Instant success!

We are not the only site getting hit by this whoever/whatever. If you Google his latest member name, you'll see what I mean. Another site, not sure what that site is about, also showed a pile of these movie posts. This is most unusual, there's so many of them, not sure what the objective is, other than free advertising.

The mods here will deal with it, and we thank them for that.

It might be best not to view any of these posts, the spammer may be collecting information regarding view hits, and that will only encourage more spam.

It's sad that spammers have nothing better to do than bug us. I get some crank spam on my personal email addresses, I've learned a trick to deal with it, set up a special folder, call it whatever, and filter the incoming spam, which in my case, more or less does not mutate the sender name, to that folder. It keeps it out of my main inbox, and I know there's nothing in
that folder but spam, so no important messages are lost. I then delete them all at once every couple of weeks. Doing this has saved me a lot of time and aggravation.

We have a "Do not call" registry. If you're on that list they (sales people, robocalls, etc) can't call you phone except under certain rules.



The company that I work for is a fortune 500 company. By making it a requirement to activate the company business card you, of course, have to give them permission. The alternative is to put everything on your credit card, and apply for reimbursement later.

That was never required before.

But what is so funny about getting a new card is that they're laying me off in December. And the only phone number that they have, is the one that they gave me.
