Google BS - OPT OUT

Postby OldAirmail » Fri Oct 11, 2013 4:54 pm

Google will soon put your face, name, and content in its ads

Go to Google's "Shared Endorsements" page and uncheck the box if you want to opt out.

Otherwise you are already opted in.

There is, however, a down side to this action!

After unchecking the box and clicking on Image

You'll get this warning -

As much as people run around crying "FOUL" on the use of their image and various other stuff on the internet...they always seem to forget that THEY are the ones who put their information on the internet in the first place. And I am willing to bet that a VERY large majority never actually read the whole terms of use section when prompted

So if you have a Google+, or a Facebook, or a {insert whatever}, then you lie in the bed you make. Expecting privacy on the internet just not compatible with the way the internet has been adapted to work. If you truly wanted to be private, you wouldn't have given them the time of day in the first place.

Oh, they could use my image and nom de guerre. They could even publish my Google email address, for that matter.

OldAirmail is more real than the personal info that Google has.

My Gmail account is used only for those sites that I never intend to return to, or those that insist on an email address. I would have to look it up, as I don't recall what it is

My Google Plus shares that address too, I think. I used it once to try and find a long lost friend. It was never used after that.

As to Facebook, or the twits website, I've never considered them for a moment.

I don't cry havoc in rage that Google, or others, can cause me harm. I've protected against that.

I do, however, protest against the automatic inclusion. And THAT was the intention of my post.

My life is somewhat private in that there is no criminal activity in my past, and little reason for anyone to care.

My privacy is more often violated by companies trying to sell me Viagra and life insurance policies, than by secret government agencies.

Although, if a secret government agency were to monitor my phone and internet activities, it could prove fatal. Death by boredom must be horrible! :D

I agree with you completely.

Our personal information is OUR property and should always remain so unless we specifically allow it to be shared.

I've never used FB or Apple for this very reason and now it seems Google is joining the crowd of private companies assuming they OWN our personal info.

Let's hope there comes a turning point where it becomes law that they have to have our specific permission before using any of our personal info for anything. (I'm not too hopeful on that though)

There are two answers to this "problem"...

Firstly don't sign in when using Google. The only time I ever sign in is when using Gmail or Picasa and then only when I want to view my online albums (which are only shared to people to are sent a one off link). Why do you would want to sign in when Googling anything is beyond me. That is just asking Google to store your "tastes" for future adverts.

Secondly: "Google announced plans to roll out “shared endorsements,” which will augment its own advertisements with information from users who rated, reviewed, or gave a +1 to the service or location in question." Don't rate anything. Unless you are like one of my sisters who rates anything and everything from brake shoes to a babies snot sucker (yes they do exist!!!).

The obsession with rating everything is driving me nuts. You cannot buy anything online without being sent a feedback email. OK, granted it is useful when buying from someone small, but the big multi nationals or online warehouses, if you get a bad deal or service and don't do back, then they don't really care, another customer will come along to replace you. Amazon is a prime example, buy a product and you get bombarded with reminders to rate what you have bought. Firstly, I don't feel the requirement to rate the box of chocolates I sent to my cousin in the USA last week as, firstly they are a standard box of chocolates, secondly, I have not tasted them, and thirdly, regardless of what they say, I don't trust them with any more information than is required to have an account.

And as a side line, Facebook, yes I have an account and I think unlike most people, I actually personally know everyone on my friends list. And when I say know, I mean for more than several years and did not meet then at the bus stop last week (unlike my sister and brother in law...). They are people I want to stay in touch with who are on a whole not in the country I live in, mainly relatives and ex-service friends. However, I digress, the amount of random stuff I get links to "XYZ likes product "ABC" amazes me. Again anything from yoghurt makers to piston rings. Yet the funny ting is, the people who have liked this stuff I know dam well are the ones that would not have any idea to use the product the just liked...........

At the end of the day, Google can only act with the information that you have put on the net and whether you feel it is really necessary to rate something.....

In this digital world, where we are constantly given the opportunity to rate one thing or another, I usually give that "option to rate" a single digit rating.

And it is not of the electrical kind, but an organic digit. One of a set of five.

GOOGLE - the same Corporate Bozo's who Bought / Purchased, YOU TUBE a few years ago, and have totally Managed to screw up the entire YOU TUBE Experience for everybody !!!

Google / YOUTUBE took away everybodys home page design that they had and Generic-ized them, so users have this plain boring dull looking profile page on YOU TUBE, now !

It used to be so easy to surf around YOU TUBE, now, everything is Dis-Organized & Un-Organzied trying to Navigate your way around your personel channel.

GOOGLE, also recently changed their E-Mail, to look more like MSN's HOTMAIL, who also changed their E-Mail format to look more like that disasterous OUTLOOK Express, that nobody ever really liked !!!

It won't be long as I was tellin somebody the other day,,, with this younger generation coming into the Internet environment work places at these companies,, without much technical knowledge as their predessors, this whole Internet thing is going to end up "non - functional", and eventually in such a mess, people will become tired of constantly having to mess with it, to keep it working, and just do away with it and move on', go back to the old way of doing things.

we'll remember the internet ( internets, :) ), one day much like the 8-Track Tape player of the 1960's and 1970's era !

only it won't be because of better innovation, it'll be because too many people screwed it up, trying to make the internet work on everything single thing they could imagine,, from a table spoon to every single handheld device they could imagine,,

were kinda seeing that happen now !

I just don't see the same minds today, being able to write the codes and language to make these programs properly work in conjuction with each other, that we had a few years ago.

It seems like the best I ever seen everything work fairly smooth, was back from 2006 thru 2010,,, then after that, they had all these new Fantasies that they were going to make it work on everything,,, and everything was gonna work with everything,,,,,

Now their wantin to mess with everybodys private personel settings on almost monthly basis, it seems,, if its not GOOGLE , than its YOU TUBE,, or FACEBOOK or TWITTER or some other Venue,,,

I don't like that YOU TUBE thinks it needs to Display your Real Name for your user name, !!!!!

Yet YOU TUBES own Security warnings, says,, don't ever use or display or provide any Personel Information about yourself, to protect yourself from Identity thieves etc. and so on, and so on,,,,,,

it just makes NO SENSE , that they come out and constantly "Contridict" themselves repeatedly !!!

I never have nor do I use that Stupid Facebook or TWITTER anyway, thought it was dumb to post everything I do and when and where, like anybody would really care, that I'm on the stoll takin a Shit,, who cares anyway ?????

People have gotton really Stupid and Ignorant about themselves and what they post and why !

They must be very bored & lonely and not have much of a life to trust someone 500 miles away or 3000 miles away to put personel information out there for the entire world to take advantage of them .

What really really gets me, is that Mark Zuckerburg, of FACEBOOK, wants to constantly mess with everybodys Security,, yet NEWS is reporting he just spent $ 30 Million Dollars to buy 4 homes to Protect his own Privacy - WTF ????

That would make him a Genuine Narcist !!!!!!

http://money.msn.com/investing/post--facebooks-zuckerberg-buys-his-privacy-for-dollar30m?ocid=ansmony11

http://www.nbcnews.com/business/mark-zuckerberg-spends-30-million-four-homes-ensure-privacy-8C11379396

All this has got way overboard, and WE need to QUIT feeding into their ignorant Bullshit, before it comes back to bite us all in the Keister !!!

I am now slowly waking up to the fact that if I hadn't joined; "The Internet", on Dial-up, in the 1990's , I would now be completely invisible to the outside World....

...which would have been very nice... ...!

We have now sold our souls to; The Devil/The Internet!

Couldn't agree more !

Its our own Stupidity for being so Naïve !

reminds me of the TROJAN HORSE,,, the people of the fort, welcomed the big huge tall 3 story horse into the FORT, under the assumption it was a great gift !

only to find out, INSIDE the Big Horse, it was loaded with Enemy Soldiers, who dropped out thru the bottom, and begin shooting, everybody inside the fort !

Can't getinto the FORT thru the gates, because of Security, can't climb over the walls of the Fort, can't Dig under the fort,, what better way,, than to look at a Gift horse in the mouth, as a gift !

turned out it was all an Illusion, a mirage, it was NO GIFT - it was the very Enemy - you were trying to protect yourself from !

Nonetheless, I opted out, and got the message. I clicked 'continue'.

My friends don't benefit from my suggestions, anyway. Never joined Facebook (thank God); however, friends have posted snapshots with my mug in them on their Facebook pages... just great!

I don't see the attraction with Facebook, anyway. To me, it just seems to be an extension of High School, where everybody wanted to show off their 'coolness', spread rumor and innuendo, and get the hot guy or girl...

If you don't have a facebook page or if you don't twit, then you're a nobody.

I like it that way. :D

Never in the entire history of mankind has so much drivel been communicated.

I just accepted a used phone and bought some pre-paid minutes in anticipation of a job hunt. If not for that, I wouldn't have bothered.

I prefer to talk to, and with, people. I do have a phone at home. If it's impractical to talk, than I have my email.

Land-line Telephone, and E-Mail (Tower Computer), and letters!...is my daily method of communication with others...

Which means...

Nobody 'Phones me... :(
Nobody E-Mails me... :(
Nobody writes to me... :(

...'cos they are all Face-booking and Twittering each other on their bloody mobile phone devices!

(Mind you...the peace and quiet is wonderful!)... ....!

Paul...living in another age... ;) ...!

My Children and Grandchildren, (and Great-Grandchildren), tell me that E-Mail and land-line telephones and writing letters, are "old-fashioned" nowadays!
