Armed Forces Network Goes Off Air Overseas Due to Shutdown, Preventing Troops From Watching Games

The Armed Forces Network (AFN), a TV station that broadcasts popular American shows for troops overseas, has almost completely shut down, according to an Associated Press report. For many troops, AFN is the only source of whatever news, entertainment or sports they choose to indulge in. As of Tuesday, that changed.

AFN has stopped broadcasting MLB and NFL games and all entertainment programs. According to its Facebook page, the station is facing “mandatory staff reductions at the AFN broadcast center, mandated by the government shutdown.”

The only station still completely functioning is AFN News.

The U.S. service academies’ football games will reportedly be aired this weekend. But other than that, almost nothing ...

expat wrote:I was reading an article today about the shut down. It said that 800,000 people have sent home thus shutting the government down. Mainly park workers and office workers. There was then a link to the Census Bureau of the USA...........There are in fact 11 million government employees in the USA  How can sending 800,000 home and having 10,200,000 still working actually be classed as shutting the government down??

Matt
Because they're sending home actual government workers?

Just a horse and pony show

House votes to approve back pay for furloughed workers

Sound and fury signifying nothing.

Every one can go back now, it's just politics as usual.

"... by a vote of 407 to 0, approving back pay for furloughed government workers."

We just paid for a federal workers vacation. Boy, do I feel better!

The Syracuse Honor Flight just knocked down the barrier and a couple hundred of them are at the Memorial now.

You know something?

It has to cost money to "close" off these open area spaces.

Wouldn't it be great if we could make the politicians and government twits responsible for this type of bull s#%t have to take it out of their own pay checks?
