ATC and Emergency squawks

Postby RAMPRAT » Tue Oct 01, 2013 10:16 pm

Is it possible to squawk 7500 or 7700 and have atc acknowledge. I believe these are highjacking codes. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Hi Ramprat,

Code 7500 is for Hijack
Code 7600 is for Radio Failure
Code 7700 is for Emergency (Mayday)

As for whether or not they work in Flight Simulator.......that's a good question! Now I have to check it out myself!

I doubt they would, FSX doesn't really simulate the transponder codes well, interpreting them I mean

Would they work if you were in the online mode flying with other players and someone was acting as ATC? Hope that was clear.

It depends upon the network you connect to places like VATSIM will acknowledge some distress calls but not all of them. And some Virtual airlines have there own codes they prefer you to use.
But I am fairly certain that FSX ATC will not acknowledge any distress call.

Controlling runway lighting from the aircraft.

Quote:
At selected uncontrolled airports, the pilot may control the light-ing by using the radio. This is done by selecting a specified frequency and clicking the radio micro-phone.

KEY MIKE FUNCTION
7 times within 5 seconds: Highest intensity available.
5 times within 5 seconds: Medium or lower intensity (Lower REIL or REIL off).
3 times within 5 seconds: Lowest intensity available (Lower REIL or REIL off).
End quote.

I doubt if this can be done on the default Flight Simulator unless designed to do so by the Aircraft/Scenery designer.

I go along with you Fozzer on this I have heard of some payware aircraft that have this ability
This is what you would do in the real world at some airports that are uncontrolled but for grass fields and private fields you are on your own.
I use a site called AIRNAV this is a real world FAA site that will tell you everything you need to know about any airport in the USA it will give you the frequency you need to tune to in order to activate the lights.
Of course this does not mean that FSX or any Flight simulator will have the ability to actually do this.

In the sim, FSX ATC will refuse to recognize an emergency squawk. Instead, they will demand that you change your squawk back to the one they gave you when you received IFR clearance. Fortunately, there are no adverse effects (unless you consider the terrible FSX ATC engine an adverse effect).
