Black Screen in DX9 Mode?!

Postby SpaceHippy1975 » Mon Sep 23, 2013 4:31 pm

Hi,

I was hoping one of you guys could help me with a problem I am currently having with my FSX install.

Over the weekend I decided to fresh re-install of FSX & Acceleration due long load times etc. This was mainly due to stupid amounts of aircraft & scenery (I'm sure you'll all know were I am coming from! :D )
I have done the FSX & Acceleration install many times before without much problems but this time was different!
Also, as my main hard drive is a 250GB SSD, so I have installed FSX onto a 3GB conventional HDD.

No matter what I do I keep getting this problem, I can start FSX, run the default flight with the Ultralight over Friday Harbour with no difficulties on full-screen, but after that when I try to set another flight with a different aircraft/airfield, FSX loads up the flight, but I get a black screen with sound in the background. When I press Escape & go back to the main menu, the area where you normally see the aircraft currently selected is also blacked out.
The only way round this is to enable DX10 preview mode, but when run in this mode I get a annoying flickers etc.

I have tried doing a repair on both FSX & Acceleration via the disks, & have even uninstalled them both, tried to ensure everything related to FSX has been cleared out (manually & with CCleaner) (too many times!)
Trying to sort this out has been driving me nuts, I've looked for the solution all over the web but nothing seems to work?! I've had FSX working in DX9 mode on my current rig with out any problems before, so why this has started now I have no idea!

Can anybody help?! (Please let me know if you need any more information from me)

Thanks,

Keith.

Welcome on SimV SpaceHippy.

This sounds strange!
I suppose you've deleted all left over fsx folders, also hidden ones, after uninstall?

You state that you installed FSX on a 3GB hard drive? Or is this a typo if not the Minimum system requirements state at least 14MB and that is without all of the extras you say you have.
Or did you not do a full install Which will work but is slower than a mud snail in Alaska In the middle of winter.

Hi, yes I believe I rooted out everything! It's strange, I've re-installed both FSX & Acceleration too many times to count! The only I've had on occasion is the Activation issue but that wasn't a biggie!

Whoops! Sorry I meant 3TB!! LOL! (trouble is I can remember back when a 1GB HDD was considered HUGE & way too expensive a luxury!)

I have installed (almost nearly) everything onto the 3TB drive, to be absolutely honest, I'm not really sure why I am worried about running FSX in DX10 mode. So far (touch wood) everything has been running fine, I guess I was always led to believe DX10 mode caused more problems than it was worth?!

Just a thought Space.
Have you tried to (re) update your directx
Running 10 can give ac and scenery probs.

I hadn't thought of that, I'll give it a go & let you know what happens. Yep, I'm definitely getting some issues with aircraft & scenery, not a lot but enough to annoy me!

Hi,

Thanks Bass, looks like re-installing DirectX has worked! (touch wood!) Although I did get a BSoD for some reason, it only happened once but everything looks ok with no blacked out areas.

Well I say all's good.... my Sibwings An-2 makes FSX crash to desktop, might have to re-install that now among other things! (& going to check the Sibwings forum!)

Thanks again,

Keith.

Hi All,

Well, just wanted to update you on my results..... Bass' suggestion of reinstalling DirectX worked! (Thank Gawd!)

I've done quite a few flights now in different aircraft & locations/scenery, both freeware & payware. Everything seems to be fine, that's until I install way too may add-ons as I had before & everything slows down again! I guess it's the circle of flight sims!

Anyway, thanks to those that gave advice & hopefully this thread may help some other poor bugger in the same boat as I was!

Cheers,
