Bad instant replay sound quality FSX

Postby MEdX » Sun Sep 08, 2013 1:47 pm

If I use the Options, Instant replay function, the playback of the video is perfect, but the audio quality is bad.

In the normal sim my audio is perfect -- as is when I play any other type of video or audio, or other games on my system. I also do a bit of high end video and sound editing on my system so I'm quite sure I do not have a hardware problem as this is a problem ONLY in FSX's instant replay/playback function.

This instant replay poor audio happens with every model, including the Msft models. I've tried lowering the sim resolution to see if that helped, running it with just ONE aircraft in the SimObjects, and tried disconnecting my Sidewinder joystick-- no difference. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty convinced its not my hardware or sound card or system. It feels like its software related because the poor audio quality is specific to this one application, and this one function only.

The problem as best I can describe it: it sounds like the audio portion of the playback is "flexing and overshooting", being compressed, off pitch and on pitch, and struggling to stay in step with the action... the replay tries to catch up, overshoot, slow down and then lag behind and then try to catch up in a constant struggle to "stay with the sim". Sorry that's the best I can describe. Interestingly enough, if I record using FRAPS "live" -- while I am running the sim, the sound quality in the avi file that FRAPS records/creates is perfect -- just one more reason to think the instant playback function in FSX is the problem. Then if I try to record an instant FXS replay using FRAPS, the bad audio in the instant replay is also recorded in the FRAPS recording -- so FRAPS is faithfully recording whatever FSX is putting out. So all this leads me to believe that there may be some tweak or config setting somewhere in FSX that needs tweaking.

System specs: win7 64, AMD 6 core 3.3Ghz, Video GTX 560 Ti 4MB mem, RealTek HD Audio drivers (Came with the system board and are functioning perfectly with everything else), FSX+Acceleration, 16Gb RAM

Does anyone have any config or other FSX tweaks or suggestions to help me solve this poor audio quality (only) during instant replay problem please?

Have you tried to update your onboard RealTek?

I only got one advice. Get yourself a decent sound card.
In the old days i've tried several onboard devices, but i always go back to the card due to quality!

yes, for sure, I hear the sound argument for an additional sound card to try to solve this, but the problem is that EVERY other app, FSX, and all every other function works perfectly -- except during the instant replay in FSX -- and I have some pretty high end video games and video editing work too -- all perfect. So it seems like a bit of overkill to spend bucks to add a sound card. I think that will be my last resort.

I'm still holding out for a config tweak somewhere.....any ideas, anyone?

Am I the only one with this problem?
