Delivery times...

Postby Fozzer » Wed Aug 28, 2013 5:23 am

How long would you expect it takes to deliver a small Jiffy Bag package containing a single CD, from Flight1 in Australia to England?

Days...weeks...months...never?

I am still awaiting delivery of my ORBX; FTX Global CD, from Flight1 after a week+ since ordering it, and paying for it.

How long does it take for Inter-Continental postal deliveries, before I start enquiring of Flight1?... ...!

Paul...used to "next day delivery" in England!...!

Congrats Fozzer.

I have very little idea how other "general" scenery improvements do, however FTX Global makes flying much better.

It's not perfect, but MUCH better.

After buying this, buying the ORBX openLC will be automatic for me.

If you haven't loaded it already, take a few pics of some of your favorite areas before and after.

Who knows, you may start liking FSX a little better and the horse may sing.

..just when I get all happy and excited, I suddenly find that the installation from the CD has failed completely!

It fails part way through, with an error...

I purchased the (expensive) CD version, to make it easy to re-install when necessary.

Posted the news on the Flight1 Forum....

...I now await the result!

...apparently it concerns the "Flight Sim Store"...who distribute the Flight1 product!

E-Mailed the Flight Sim Store for a solution.... ...!

Paul. This is the second time in a few days to my knowledge that you've had problems installing software from a CD. I'm wondering if the problem is with your CD ROM/DVD drive.

.... ;) ... ;) ...!

That was a total failure of my very ancient CD ROM Drive...it wouldn't even rotate!

Replaced it with a sparkling new CD ROM Drive...

Runs all my other CDs OK now...

So, I await a reply from the Flight Sim Store now...I believe the CD version of FTX Global offered, is fairly new.

Paul....fingers crossed... :D ...!

Did it absolutely stop with NO choices?

I downloaded the software. When I installed it, it ran into an error on a couple of files.

I was given the choice of SKIP RETRY or CANCLE.

I chose RETRY and it had no problems until a minute or two later when it popped up again. Again, I chose RETRY and it successfully loaded the file on the retry.

A few days ago I downloaded it again. I got the same problems, but with different files. At the end it installed everything successfully.

After inserting the CD, It appears to unpack a number of files, but when it comes to the installer file, it quickly brings up an error...>>>

Installer integrity check has failed. Common causes include incomplete download and damaged media. Contact the installer's author to obtain a new copy.
More information at: http://nsin.sf.net/NSIS_Error.

The Files included on the disk:

Autorun. 1KB
Readme. 1KB
orbx Icon. 4KB
OrbxFTXGlobal100.2 File 512,000KB
ditto .3 File
ditto .4 File
ditto .5 File
ditto .6 File
ditto .7 File
ditto .8 File
ditto .9 File 290,165KB
OrbxFTXGlobal100 Application 506,345KB

Note that a; "OrbxFTXGlobal100.1 File 512,000KB" File is not present on the disk!
Whether this is causing the problem, (missing file), or whether there is a problem with the actual "installer.exe", I don't know!
....there is no way that the program is going to install using this CD!

I would try the "Instant Download" option (requiring payment), but I have already paid for the CD Version!
..and trying to get hold of the "Flight Sim Store" in Australia via E-Mail is a long-winded headache!

I fear I have lost 108 Australian dollars, and no ORBX FTX Global for my FSX Flight Sim!

Lessons to be learned?

This is what I have from the unzipped download.

Getting you a replacement copy of any one of these that may be damaged shouldn't be a problem. After that, you'll just need to wait for a better copy of the disk.

....stage XIV....

Doug (Hagar) was right... ...!

After replacing three IDE, CD ROM Drives*, I managed to find one that works (they don't last forever), and it successfully read all the DATA on the CD...(so reading the CD was the problem!).

It took 2 hours to unwrap, unpack, create back-up files, and install the program!

I've still got things to sort out, regarding the ORBX FTX Global files on my HDD (which are all over the place!), but at least the CD seems to be reading OK.

Paul...onwards and upwards... ....!

* New IDE CD ROM drives are almost impossible to find now, (they are all SATA CD ROM drives now, and require SATA sockets on the Motherboard).

How about an external optical drive, that plugs into a USB port?

I must admit, having being rooted in 40-pin Internal IDE Optical Drives since the invention of the computer... :o ...., I had never considered an external USB version!... ...!

Any advantages/disadvantages?

Nobody stocks, or sells, 40-pin IDE Drives any more...(old-fashioned!).... ...!

Generally, they're plug-and-play simple, and of course-- still widely available.

Interesting!... :D ...!

It looks as though two special USB cables are required.

One to power the Drive, and one to transfer the Data (using two separate USB panel sockets).

Worth considering when my internal IDE CD ROM Drive finally fails for good!
