What settings do I have to change so that the trees and buildings appear sooner?

Having just recently tried out my FSX, (which I purchased when it was first released) the most disappointing thing I find, after using my FS 2004 every day since its release, where the scenery detail can be seen in the far distance, and gradually and smoothly gets clearer as one approaches it, as one would expect in real life, in FSX the scenery is mostly blank in the far to near distance, and leaps out in large blocks of scenery as one approaches, which is most startling and unrealistic!

Even with all my FSX settings at max, it is definitely the one major thing that constantly spoils my enjoyment of FSX, which never happens in FS 2004!

Paul.... :think: ....!
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

I agree with you Fozzer, one of the heart-breaking comprimises of FSX, although I put up with it...

So, Bubblehead, To set your AutoGen to load further out (which helps lessen the "POP") try setting your Level of Detail Radius up in your FSX.CFG file under TERRAIN:

[TERRAIN]
LOD_RADIUS=4.500000

4.5 is the max the slider will go in the settings menu, but as with anything FS, you can push the envelope... ;) the ultimate max is 9.0 (yikes!) but I find nothing stable on my rig past 6.5 (plenty, plenty!)

One reminder though, if you ever change any settings again within the settings menu (almost anything, not just terrain related) this will be reset back to 4.5 as a max! Another old-hat caveat of FSX! :doh: Just have to change the .CFG back and reload FSX.

Hope this helps! :beer:
