Re-start the installation, but this time, ensure you launch the install using the right-click and choosing "run as administrator", instead of a normal double-click.

Hi, Trooper. That's one of the problems that I'm having.

But now I'm starting to think (not always a good thing).

When I first installed FTX Global, FSX was still in its default location. FTX Global worked perfectly. But when I reinstalled FSX I installed it to C:\FSX.

FTX Global had no problem finding it, and everything went well until I ran into something like your problem. I even let it run overnight in the hopes that it would continue. No luck.

So my question to you is - Is FSX on the standard location, or did you do something like I did?

Despite the recommendations of many to place FSX on C drive instead of Microsoft Games, this can create havoc with other programs. For example, Carenado A36 Bonanza WILL NOT WORK if the FSX program is located on the C Drive. If it does not see the file in its normal location it will create a file automatically. I actually had to trash a notebook as a result as it was FUBAR.

There are no recommendations to place FSX on the C drive.
The only recommendations that were made, on all the FS forums, is to install FSX out of the default location (c:\program files.....), and on a different drive than the drive with the OS (which means NOT C) ;)

My FSX is installed in D:\Flight Simulator X\ and that never caused any issues with any products. But I know that there are two or three products which have a bad install program that is not able to read the FSX location in the registry, and always put the files in the wrong default place. But that's easilly fixed, most of the times.

Brunon: there must be something wrong, the install program is not supposed to search for this file on your desktop, that's nonsense.
I'm downloading the PNW Demo version 2 that is offered on the FTX website at the moment, to take a look in the package. I'll try to see wha't happening.

Ok, I took a look into that file.
On the website, we download a big ZIP file, which contains two information files, and one EXE install program.
My current computer does not have FSX installed, so when I launched the program, it chose c:\Program Files\OrbX, and I could not alter this choice.

That means that the program is looking into the Windows Registry to determine where FSX is.
If the install program points to your desktop, that means there's something wrong in your registry. So you should go and take a look over there.

Do you know how to go into the Windows registry ? Have you already done it before ?

Maybe a CCleaner/registry could help! But a warning! This registry cleaner is a hard working program, and it can clean some small stuff from other programs, that needs to be taken care of afterward

Sorry for the late answer.
Ok so here are some basic instructions. We're going to check if the FSX path is registered correctly in the registry. Most 3rd party programs will read the registry to see where FSX is.
Go to your Start menu.
In the search zone, type "regedit" and press ENTER key
The registry editor appears. Be very carefull what you do from now, as deleting anything could lead to catastrophic results ;)
The window has two part: a "tree" structure on the left, and an empty space on the right.
In the left part, expand the node HKEY_CURRENT_USER
Then go to Software
Then Microsoft
Then Microsoft Games
Then Fliht Simulator
And finaly, click on 10.0
In the right side, a set of lines appear. One of them starts with "AppPath". This is the install path of FSX, that is read by third party install programs. Check if this path is correct for your computer.

I just made a (dangerous) experiment. (I'm too curious)

I moved my fsx to another folder/drive!!
ORBX demo is not working correctly after that! No FTXCentral, no FTXLights and no OrbxControlPanel!!
As far as i can see, they are all bound to program files (86)/microsoft games!

@Daube, the AppPath was correct when i tried to reinstall ORBX.

When i moved fsx back, (but this time i had to put it in stock direction) its working flawless again!

Maybe this is something to think about with your problems ;)

The FTX Demo will also register its install path somewhere I guess. May it be in the registry on in the internal FTX files. It's not surprise it stops working if you move the folder away...

You might be right Daube, but my original install was C:/FSX! When i moved it back to that path, it did not work correctly either! Neither after uninstall. I searched the FTXCentral in all "three" install/movements, and that crusial program could not be pointed elsewhere than to program files (86)/ms.games!? I just needed to move fsx to the stock position to get it working perfectly again!
My thoughts here is, if you move/or reinstall orbx, then you are in trouble! :?
