I agree with the remarks about FS filling a gap that generally combat sims miss the mark on....and yes different combat sims have come and gone from my computer but FS has always been my main simulator all the way back to FS98
Tinpusher, there has been alot of changes since the original SFP1 and if you enjoyed it back then you would likely enjoy it even more now with all the variations of it that are available......some of the era specific mods are like a complete make-over of the game that are very detailed to a specific conflict and the level of historical correctness can make for some very convincing and immersive campaigns.
On another note......Allthough I don't currently have the time to invest into it, DCS is a new combat sim that arguably has as good a level of detail as FS does.
I came across this video recently of a multiplayer session of DCS A-10 which is nothing short of amazing.....If I could coin the phrase "as real as it gets"

It is definitely worth setting the resolution as high as you can get it, click on full screen, and sit back and be impressed by the level of detail in the sim, and the level of skill of the guys at the controls

Enjoy
