looking for a realistic F-104G

Hello all.
I have been surfing on the web looking for a F-104G Starfighter for FS9.

Downloaded several freeware a/c, however (with all due respect to the authors/designers), none of them comes even close in the sense of flight characteristics and instrument panel as I remember them from many years ago.

Is there any F-104G either freeware or payware which comes closest to the real thing?
Your suggestions will be very much appreciated.

Hi - try the Legendary Starfighter by Capt Sim. It's FS9 payware, but will work in FSX

I don't know any good F-104G, but you might want to give a try to the freeware F-104S made by SimSkunkWorks.
This company started with an enhancement of the payware Cloud9 F-104.
Finally, they know make payware models for FSX, but the older versions of their F-104S, both for FSX (native) or FS9, can be downloaded for free from their website (you have to create an account and log in to see the "freeware" links).

I have not tried the FS9 version, but I can tell you that the FSX version is extremely challenging, so I suppose the FS9 version is very good as well.

Cloud9 used to have a very realistic oneohfoor but unable to trace them; they probably are no longer in business.

Cloud9 doesn't exist anymore, indeed.
However, it is the Cloud9 model that had been reworked by SimSkunkWorks to produce their freeware F-104. They redid a bit of the 3D model, the textures, they redid completely the flight model and they added quite a few new features and other interesting gauges inside.

Hey Tinpusher.....glad you enjoyed.
If you are interested in aircraft of that era.....century series, and other similar cold war era planes then I would strongly suggest you check out the Strike Fighter 2 series https://store.thirdwire.com/store.htm (the developer has recently been dabbling in the mobile market so scroll down until you get to the PC titles, there are 3 pages to check out)
Much like FS, there is a large amount of addon planes and scenery available, and much like FS there are some very talented people making products that can transform the sim/game into something really special. This is not an arcade style game, it is closer to a simulator (sim-light) it has a similar/comparable level of complexity to default FS (IMHO) .... Flight modeling, weapons management, fuel management, and navigation are all based on fairly realistic parameters.....Engine management and radar are somewhat simplified, but are still based on realistic functionality.
You can get damn near any theater of aviation conflict ranging from WW2, Korea, Vietnam, Cuban missile crisis, Iran-Iraq, Israel vs (you pick it), Operation Desert Storm (early 90's), etc. etc. etc.......If you are a military aviation history buff, then this series is a must have.
Anyways.....theres my rant for the day

Your reply reminded me that in some drawer among a pile of other CD-Rom's there is "Strike Fighters Project One", a combat flight sim which I used to play togehter a number of years ago with my son (Windows XP) until the disk became slightly transparent. Till now I was not aware that there were add ons and extensions available for this kind of sim.
This is a whole new combat sim world to explore, although FS 2004 fills the main part of my ''chair and screen'' flying.

Same here. Although I did buy several flight/combat sims in the past, the FS series is the only one that never left the hardrives. Flying in FS, even if you don't have any enemies to shoot inside, has always provided me something "more" than any other military sim.

Flying that freeware F-104 also provides a bit of fear and pride, to complete the experience

I agree with your opinion.
The main reason why I removed combat flight sims in the past is the lack of (ground) scenery, although I do understand that is of secondary importance in a combat simulator. Even in CFS 3 is the surrounding environment far from tbe standards of FS9, let alone FSX.
The screenshots in your post support this opinion.
I do not care to shoot virtual enemies in hostile skies, I just like to fly fighteraircraft as close to reality as possible.
If that happens to take place over an interesting area then that is an advantage.

In fact I just installed the same aircraft.
Will try and take some screenshots while drilling holes in the clouds over the newly installed Japan scenery.
Could you (or anyone else) tell me how to upload screenshots and the criteria, or where to find these?

When you are writing a message, take a look at the buttons that appear on top of the page. The last one is called "Upload Images".
It will open a new window, with several lines that let you select a picture on your drive.
The picture should be maximum 1024 pixels wide if I'm not mistaken, and should be smaller than 150 kb.
Once you have selected your pictures (one per line), press the "Upload" button.
After a little loading time, you'll get a page showing you messages with "SUCCESS ...." lines, and the links to your uploaded pictures.
What you have to do is to copy the [img].... [ /img] texts into your messages directly. That will make your picture appear in your message when you validate it.
