Can't insert AC500 "Smugglers Dream" into FS9

Postby Jean Loup » Sat Aug 10, 2013 11:22 am

Hello helpers, I found another one: I downloaded "Smugglers Dream" texture (AC500SmugglersDream.zip) PLUS the required file "FS2004/FS9 Aero Commander 500 (WITH Virtual Cockpit)" (ac500vc1.zip) but NO SUCCESS! :obscene-birdiered:

When opening the aircraft.cfg file (of Aero Comander VC1), I noted that MODEL & PANEL in smuggler's texture said VC, unlike the other textures, because there are no PANEL nor MODEL with VC in the whole Aero Comander VC1 file. THEN, on closer READ ME study I noticed that smuggler's texture is for "FS2004/FS9 Aero Commander 500 Cargo (WITH VC) " (ac500ca1.zip). So happily ever after, I installed that cargo file in my FS9, included the Smuggler's texture & ... NOTHiNG! The CARGO file is there with three AC500's (Clean, Dirty & AF) BUT no SMUGGLER's DREAM! (Smuggler's Nightmare should be that texture name!):
Image
Image

The aircraft.cfg file won't aknowledge any changes I make (like change "AC50" to "AC-500" for example); even when I delete it there is no change. Only taking out the AiR file does any change (like disapearing):
Image

Furthermore, the cargo FLiGHTS are EMPTY!:
Image

I tried adding the panel.vc & model.vc into ac500vc1, configure the aircraft.cfg file (here it responds well) & ... it is in the "create a flight" menu! BUT when I "Fly Now", it's a Nono:
Image

Please help: ANY iDEAS? (like how to configure the AC500c.air file, :music-tool: maybe) It is awfull to be in México without a Smuggler's Dream!

You're quite correct about the link being to the wrong file. As you say, the repaint is for "FS2004/FS9 Aero Commander 500 Cargo (WITH VC) " (ac500ca1.zip) --> http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=ac500ca1.zip&categoryId=

I'm not sure why you're having problems installing it. If the Aircraft.cfg file is missing you must have moved it. The aircraft can't possibly display in FS9 without it.

Hello terrible Haggar: I will elaborate on the (cargo) aircraft.cfg file issue.

Image

Since I started using FS 2004 on my lap with Vista (feels like a suped-up Millenium Edition); every time I try to save up after configuring an aircraft.cfg file (from FS 2004 files), this denial happens:
Image

& I have to use this "little trick"; first, saving it on my desk:
Image

second, I move it to it's original destination:
Image

third & final, I move & replace it:
Image

From then on, Vista is not denying any more my aircraft.cfg configurations (never happened with XP). BUT there are a few aircraft (those installed with the :angry-cussing: installer; even after using a temporary folder & installing manually) that do not respond to .cfg file changes (like here: http://forums.simviation.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=58564&p=400794#p400788). So, I will try that "run this program as administartor" trick again ...(I had to reinstall Vista, from RECOVERY partition: saved ALL my files BUT forgot this "little trick". Will try before further complaints & reports, sorry for my bad)

I have the "Smugglers Dream": yesternight I replaced all files in texture.dirty, with the textures of "Smuggler's Dream". No changes needed in unresponsive.cfg nor unconfigurable.air files any more! Not very very conventional, but practical. (while I solve my .cfg problem ...). BUT wait a minute: I was opening FS 2004 for taking a picture of "Dreamer's Smuggle" and it took a LOong time, then in Aero Design, ALL SiX Aero Comanders are under AC-500 (no ac50 any more): now I have TWO "Dreamers Smugle", one under DiRTY. Just a matter of puting back the original textures (that Open as Administrator trick, is faster than expected!).
<<q
No "AC 500 Flights" though; title is on the Pick a Flight menu, but EMPTY. Those files are not similar to other files in FLiGHTS folder ... this aerodrome is from QC Challenger flights. I like to fly in Ultralights at aerodromes nearby, NOT in my FS 2004. So I deleted the QC Challenger aircraft, but after the NO AiRCRAFT notice it will open any of those flights with the aircraft picked before in Create a Flight. The Navigator (in Modules folder) is also absent on the menu.

Image

Is there a way to "glue" the Aero Comander to QC Flights, replacing the Challenger? (OR, erase the Challenger seeker & it's no aircraft warning) GRACiAS for your patience with my ignorance & deviousness, Haggar.

It's like having TWO FS 2004 simulators; one that responds to my configs (starting with a nagging "Allow" screen), when in "Administrator Mode":
Image
Image

AND another FS 2004 with a mind of it's own, with the disconfigured AC50 menu ... without ANY nagging screen nor "Smugglers Nightmare"(remember, I replaced all textures inside the ".dirty file" with ".smuglers" inside textures):
Image
Image

PLUS (oh, NO! hes going on & on...) when doing photos of my desk with "fn"+"prt sc" to upload here, I press the Windows button so FS 2004 goes into my task bar & allows me to do this post. When in USER mode, it pops back clicking the icon on my task bar. Not so when in Administrator mode: it freezes a la Millenium Edition & I have to start the TASK MANAGER to END PROCESS or it will NEVER work nor go away.
No wonder Microsoft is at Windows 8.1! (THREE Operative Systems later than Vista & none working better than XP!) <<t

The nasty & nagging ALLOW screen is out, after disabling "User Account Control". No more freezing of FS 2004, when taking photos for posting in Simviation, and configuring the .cfg files responds with all possible dispach (even using that ubitiquos "installer" NOBODY want's to use). Some Vista features are for the WORST! :violin:

Like "a Century of Flight" was not a Microsoft product ... :angry-banghead:
