Scenery.cfg file error

FSX including FSX Steam version.

Scenery.cfg file error

Postby Bubblehead » Thu Jul 25, 2013 3:06 pm

Every time I start the FSX I get this warning:

scnery.cfg file error. Invalid Remote scenery path in scenery area.115. Click OK to continue.

Any reason why this is happening?

Look in your FSX\Addon Scenery folder. Make sure you didn't delete the sub-folder named scenery by mistake. If it's missing create a new one. Tell me if that fixed it.

I doubt if this is in the addon scenery as the addon scenery is the last entry in the scenery cfg file
I found this entry in my scenery cfg file as you can see area 115 is Reno
If you open you scenery cfg file and scroll down you will find out what area 115 is on your FSX

[Area.115]
Title=Reno
Local=Scenery\Cities\Reno
Layer=115
Active=TRUE

I suspect you have Acceleration installed. Area.115 is the Addon Scenery folder in the RTM version of FSX.

So what do you think I should do to get rid of the annoying warning. I do have Acceleration. How do I get to the scenery.cfg file. Can I just I uncheck the RENO scenery in my FSX Scenery Library file?

Make sure you're looking at the correct Scenery.cfg. (Not the file in the FSX root directory folder.) The Scenery.cfg file that FSX reads is in this location:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX - under Windows XP

OR

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX - under Vista/Win7

I do have acceleration installed. But I went to the scenery.cfg as you suggested and here's what I found:

[Area.115]
Title=Addon scenery
Layer=115
Active=TRUE
Required=False

[Area.116]
Title=Reno
Local=scenery\cities\Reno
Active=TRUE
Required=False

Looks like something is missing in the [Area.115] file. It does not have the "Local" line. Also the Addon scenery in it Title, I saw that in the FSX Scenery Library and when I clicked on it it showed five or six files which I did not understand.
Will the above info help solve the mystery?

OK I was looking at the wrong file this scenery cfg file is where Hagar said it was at
in this case area is area 115 is the addon scenery with out this line as you see it nothing in the addon scenery would work
I have to caution you though do not I repeat DO NOT manually add
this line if you have something else defined in this area as you will mess up the numbering system
If you want too add it make it the last entry in your file making sure to use the next logical number

[Area.115]
Title=Addon Scenery
Local=Addon Scenery
Layer=115
Active=TRUE
Required=FALSE

Bubblehead. Please listen to me. Look in your FSX\Addon Scenery folder for a sub-folder named scenery. This folder is activated by default. If it's missing create a new folder in the Addon Scenery folder & name it scenery. That should fix your error message.

I'm listening with both ears. In the FSX\Add on Scenery are two files, scenery and texture. Is that the scenery you were referring to?

Yes. Are you still getting the error message about Area.115?

This is what it should look like. Note the folder name is Addon Scenery.

That's exactly what I'm getting. BTW, I was able to get to the scenery.cfg using the path you gave me which was: C:\program data\microsoft\FSX\scenery. I got the same FSX loaded in my other computer but don't get the Area.115 warning. My other PC has WinXP OS. So how do I get to the scenery.cfg? I don't see Program Data on the C:drive. I thought I might check on the Area.115 and see if it has the same entry.

OK time out here You are not making any sense here one line states you found the program data folder and the next line states you can not find it. I do not know about anyone else here but I am confused :think: :?:
It should be underneath the program files folder or the program files(86) folder if you have a 64 bit OS <<s
