A new Stick of Joy!

Postby Fozzer » Wed Jul 17, 2013 7:04 am

After owning a succession of various Joysticks since the early 1980's, including the MS Sidewinder, various Logitek, etc, my latest Saitek Cyborg Evo Force has recently been giving me problems with random triggering of the various buttons when forcing the stick to the extreme of its movements*.

http://www.trustedreviews.com/Saitek-Cy ... ral_review

So, today I rushed out to replace it with my new joystick: Saitek Cyborg Fly 5...>>> http://www.cyborggaming.com/prod/v5stick.htm

Quite a nice piece of kit, compact and light, and does all that is required of it (£40)!
USB power, rather than the heavy Power Pack Brick required for the Evo Force.

Its worth noting the the FLY 5 Joystick does not contain the Force-feedback components like the Cyborg Evo Force Joystick, but I don't use the force-feedback anyway...I always found it rather annoying!

Just reprogrammed the buttons in the Assignments option to work the same as my previous Joystick....so all is good to go!

Paul....FS 2004 + FSX... ...!

* ....another piece of useless/faulty hardware to join all the others slowly filling up the spare bedroom to the ceiling!

Hello Chums.. :D ...1

After trying out my new stick of joy I notice that it has TWO throttles and a trim, (etc), wheel.
Now normally, the throttle is enabled in the Sim automatically, without reference to the "Assignments List"..
..and the the Trim Control is enabled with buttons....up/down

Most of these controls (throttle, mixture, trim, etc) can also be performed using the Mouse...dragging...

So...what would be the procedure to assign each throttle either to separate engines...or one throttle to Engine control, and the other to Mixture control?
The same with the joystick Trim Wheel (rotated with the thumb).

In the Assignment List, the controls (throttle, mixture, trim, etc, buttons) are listed as maximum and minimum movements, but on my joystick these movements will now be analogue!

Moving a throttle, trim wheel, etc, on the stick, doesn't register in the assignments window (only button presses!).

...see what I mean?... ;) ...!

Paul....with a joyful stick... ...!

Having replaced my very nice, worn-out Saitek Cyborg Evo Force Joystick with my new Saitek Cyborg X...(Fly 5) Joystick, and having noticed that it has TWO "throttle" controls...AND a "trim wheel" control, I am left with wondering how to assign them to perform; Throttle + Mixture/Throttle + Propeller...and the "trim wheel" to perform Elevator trim?
The Assignments list only allows for keyboard button presses...NOT analogue control assignments!

The Throttle analogue control is assigned automatically on start-up, so how do you assign one lever to Throttle, and the other lever to Mixture/Propeller/Something else?
..similarly, assign the analogue joystick Trim Wheel to Elevator trim. (which are normally button presses; button 7/1!).

..any ideas, Chums?.... ;) ..!

I have the latest drivers installed....

...and also some additional programming software*....but it doesn't relate directly to the Flight Sim Assignments.
All the buttons on the Stick can be programmed directly in the Flight Sim (FS 2004/FSX) to control the various Sim operations, but NOT the Throttles and Trim Wheel, which are "analogue controls" (not buttons!)
They cant be programmed directly into the drop-down Flight Sim Button Assignments List.

* (The joystick programming software included, requires the ingenuity of a very clever six-year-old to master the requirements!).

My old Cyborg Evo Force only had one throttle, and no trim wheel...so that was easy-peasy!

Its not important, but its a shame having these extra controls available, and not being able to use them!... ...!

Woo-hoo!... :D ...!

Sorted out the Joystick Elevator Trim Wheel!

In Assignments, select elevator trim up, elevator trim down, incrementally, (default Num-Pad buttons 1 and 7), and move the wheel in the direction desired..
..they will be recognised as button presses...Joy!.... ...!

Still haven't figured out how to assign the "additional" analogue throttle control, to control; 2nd engine/propeller/mixture, etc... ...!

Paul...still early days... ...!

Finally got the assignments problem confusion sorted out on the joystick!.... :D ....>>>

Menu > Controls > Assignments > "Joystick Axes"....for the Throttle(s) assignments!..(The right hand throttle is referred to as; "Slider!").

There are two Tabs: "Button Assignments" and "Joystick Axes"

The Joystick Trim Wheel is enabled in "Button Assignments" by wheeling forward for trim down, and wheeling backwards for trim up! (They will be assigned as Button Numbers).

Sorted!... ...!
