New Student Pilot Here!

Postby Fishbed7701 » Mon Jul 15, 2013 5:21 pm

I'm proud to say I've started flight lessons recently and I'm on my 4th one. It's going great flying a little C152. I've done a few landings, most of them not too pretty amongst other things... :D :D :D
Looking forward to my next lesson!! <<q

Any other student pilots here? <<s

I'm a fairly new student pilot. I soloed at 8 hours in a 1980 172N on the 5th. Trust me, it's the best feeling in the world taxiing down the strip after your first solo.

Wow you're pretty lucky to be soloing at 8 hours! Most people I know don't solo until 20-25!

and to think I just Sold a Cessna 172 in good condition always hangered. 1965 model, was my dads, guess I could of kept it,, but I prefer to keep my feet on the ground and tinker with the puter airplanes personally.

I can Fly any Aircraft I want and no need for a Physical, and I never ever get my aircraft inspected , nor do I ever need fuel or insurance !

If I crash, which sometimes I do,, My plane is never damaged, back as good as new with the push of a button :)

My father flew for 53 years as a private pilot with never an incident.

I been up many times with him,, but never actually did get that bug, he was wantin me to get it, so he could give me his 172,, but,, I just never really took to serious flying.

I personally feel, I wouldn't be too good at it, andI don't think i'm smart enough to actually be flying in real life, and the ATC guys, would be pullin their hair out with me,,,

I Know nothing about how to talk to ATC in their language, for i'm just a former Truck Driver,

Breaker Breaker got your ears on ???

don't think ATC would like our Truck driving communication skills to much !!!

I can fully understand that... ;) ...!

I flew an Army Auster Aiglet spotter plane a few times for the British Army 1956.
It was interesting at the time, but after I was demobbed in 1958 I never had any particular interest in aeroplanes until the 1997 appearance of Flight Unlimited II, Fly!, Pro Pilot '99, Microsoft FS '98, etc......
An interest was re-born again, resulting in a couple of trial flights in the local clubs Cessna 150/152's in 2004, (at the time that FS 2004 really took hold!).
I quite enjoyed the flights, aided by my long experience in the various Flight Simulators!
But the enormous expense of Private Pilot activity is for the very rich....
..I spot the private pilots at my local airfield turning up in battered and rusty Ford Cortinas, with the arse out of their trousers, and the soles off their shoes...and waiting for someone to buy them a pint!
A very expensive hobby, all round!

Like Jetranger, I am quite satisfied with my daily explorations all round the World in my FS 2004 and (FSX) for all the various reasons that he mentioned!

My real-time explorations of the countryside are carried out at ground level, (safer), on my Motor Bikes...
...and considerably cheaper!

Real Pilots are a special, enthusiastic, breed, expense no object....but not for everyone..

Paul....Touring California every day in a Cessna 150....with 50 pence-worth of electricity!.... ...!

I got my license a week after I turned 17  I had the best solo ever, we flew up to McCall ID over the mountains and down into the most scenic part of Idaho from Nampa Muni.

All the bush flying I've done in Idaho in FSX I can imaging how much fun that was!

I am on the cusp of 300 hrs, and about 20 years of being obsessed with flying, and I know I am still a student. My favorite flights are those that teach me something new.
Prepping for my first instructor certificate now (glider), and man, do I feel like a student.
You worst landing is one you have yet to make... but so is the best.
If you keep that attitude through all your flying days, you should do well with flying. And don't let anybody talk you into a 172 or whatever to save time flying out to the practice area or doing your XCs... the 152 is an excellent choice for any flight student, even if they have 1000 hours. Very honest airplane, and cheap to operate. Enjoy it!!

Interesting to note the cost of flying.....

Those 6 hours, as 1-hour trial flights @ £150 per hour in a Cessna 152, at my local flying club would cost me the princely sum of £900....>>>

I don't go on very many trial flights at the moment!... ...!

Oh yes, each of my lessons cost about $150 each, so about £115 I think. Totally worth the price IMO <<v

I don't think the feeling of being a student ever really goes away. I still consider myself a student of aviation, and simply the industry itself, even though I've racked up a few hundred more hours since my "official" student days, and have been instructing for a long enough time now that I feel ready to move on to the next thing. I would imagine the airline pilot with 20,000 hours still learns something every now and then, and has similar feelings.

Jetranger, I strongly believe that anyone can be trained to fly an airplane successfully. And often times, the least likely candidate to find success, turns out to be the diamond in the rough.
