Doug is right.... ;) ..!

I was referring to Matt's vintage MGB motor car, which he is busy restoring in his garage...

Engines and Prop Shafts (driving the rear wheels): Matt will recognise the comparison in his post!...

Ha-Ha! The venerable MGB sports car was my first guess but being the retired aircraft maintenance type that I am my brain immediately went to the dump mode then proceeded to initiate a forced realignment and came up with MGB = Main Gear Box which unfortunately refers more to helos than an SR-22. Luckily I have my occupational therapist on speed dial.

So Matt how far along are you on this project?

An Aircraft Mechanic only needs two tools, Duct Tape and WD40.
If it moves and it's not supposed to - use the Duct Tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to - use the WD40.

Yes and that's why I said I wonder if it was running at idle.

"MGB with a broken prop-shaft?" Unfortunately the Cirrus SR22 doesn't have a MGB, the prop gets bolted directly to the crank shaft like most other GA aircraft. If I was smart enough to figure out how to download a diagram I have on my computer I could show everyone the engine layout.

Sorry, I have just picked myself up of the floor with tears in eyes AND I am not laughing at you. Misunderstanding can produce some of the best humorous moments in life. Fozzer was referring to my 1977 MGB Roadster. Right now it is a naked body on axle stands.

Hi Matt! It looks pretty good so far. I'm assuming that's a primer coat I see in the picture. Do you have much body work to do or was it in fairly decent shape to start with? What's it like mechanically?
My dad did auto body work for a living and was a real artist at it. I remember when I was in my early teens helping him fix the roof on an old ford pick up. Back in the early days of auto body repair they didn't use Bondo or fibreglass but a torch (not an English flashlight), lead sticks and various shaping files. I can't imagine what sort of lung irritants were in the fumes coming off the hot lead.

Yeah, I realized the joke was on me. Having not spent too much time on the forums here, though I've been hanging around Simviation for a few years, I'm not that familiar with everyone's background and interplay. So I set myself up for that one didn't I?

Hi Hawk,

after a week in hospital, with nothing to smile at, your post certainly brought a laugh to my face and I thank you for it :D

My MBG or Emmy as my youngest calls here (Papa, Emmy the MBG, it rhymes and Emm, and it is how we say the letter M"......."Yes my son, I understand the thinking of an 8 year old boy, I was one once too"  ) is in not a bad condition. She has spent the last 10 years dry stored in a barn. The body only has to have a repair on the passenger side sill. I believe they are call the rocker panels in the States?? I need to carry out a standard patch repair and then the body is pretty much done. I am taking my time and have taken the underside back to the factory primer. I don't know what they put on the car back in the 70's, but it is tough stuff and does not want to come off. Just a case of preparing the surface for new primer, then a waterproof primer as the red is porous and the a couple of coats of grey under seal. I am going for grey as you have a better chance of see what is going on with the underside of a 36 year old car. Black is way to good at hiding stuff. Anyway, this a bit of a thread hijack. I will be posting some update picture in Photos soon. There is a thread or two already but the pictures did not make the forum move and have been lost.

Well Matt I'm glad I made you laugh. Heaven knows there isn't much to laugh at these days. Hmmmm... Reminds me of an episode I had while I was in Uncle Sam's Canoe Club. I was a senior enlisted type in a Helicopter Airborne Mine Sweeping squadron with RH-53D's. The senior 3 enlisted ranks shared the lavatory facilities (the Head) with the officers. I'm not sure if that was supposed to be a privilege for us or for them? Anyway, one day as I was walking into the head our Commanding Officer, the Skipper, who was a real John Wayne type, was exiting one of the stalls. I commented "Well Skipper you certainly blew that myth." With a puzzled expression he asked what myth I was referring to. I replied "The one about how the Skipper's sh_t don't stink!" He stopped dead in his tracks, shook his head laughing and said "Senior Chief you're the only S.O.B. around here crazy enough to say something like that to me." He left and I could hear him laughing all the way down the hall to his office. Ironically, afterwards whenever he wanted to know how the troops felt about some situation he'd come looking for me because he knew I'd give it to him straight.

It sounds like Emmy is a real sweet project. Hope you can get back to her soon.
