sheesh....seems i spent so much time in my life doing things which had little or no value...how i kept a roof over my head is amazing.....built this r/c model of the royal william, and i couldn't sell it or even donate it to some charitable organization....even offered it to our local maritime museum, but they didn't want it cause they couldn't afford to build a case for it..not that they would even have the room for it......sheesh.....so here it sits at maynards auction house....with a reserved price of $8000......so wish me luck....if it doesn't sell, i'll place it on my two wheel dolly and push it up and down the streets with a sign on it ..."looking for a home".....hmmm...then again people may try offering me a home .....anyways...just thought i'd share......cheers.....vc

Incredible. Wow. Stunning. An absolute masterpiece. I could go on and on. I'm assuming you built that from a kit. Even from a kit, it takes great skill and an enormous amount of time, it's much, much more than a matter of just glueing the parts together. This one looks just very well done.

I might suggest: If it still doesn't sell, make up some color flyers, be sure the model pict is clear, and send them via mail to various attorneys around town. Those are the type that might be interested and might have the room (and the $'s) for it, and it looks great in a lawyer's office.

Thanks for sharing that with us. Anything else you've created, let us know. Like to see more picts of this one.

They've got a tall ship model in a dept store in a mall nearby, I've taken many close looks at it, it's nice, but it's nothing like this. I'm seeing tremendous detail here.

thanks for the support......and no, i don't think you'd find a kit like this anywhere....although i did use the plans from a kit along with photos of the original model sent to me by a wonderful fellow at the us naval academy in maryland....looks better here than sitting in my garage

I bet you will be surprised at what it goes for. My wife complained about my collection of Pocher 1/8 scale cars. After collecting and building them for 15 years, I sold them last year and bought my MGB roadster.......... and still had some money left over......

I once built a 21 inch copy of the Golden Hind from technical drawings that I ordered. I started cutting wood the day that they came in the mail. It was much better than most of the stuff that you see for sale at ridiculous prices, but nowhere as good as yours.

Mine was given away before one of my many moves in the '80s.

that's so very kind....somebody upstairs has to have heard that, and may take appropriate action because of it.......funny thing though...you can put so so much into building something.....and then, when it's finished, have absolutely no attachment to it......maybe it's because we know we could do so much better.....it's how man evolves i guess........nice if it could be displayed somewhere easily accessible, where people could enjoy it.......cities need more exposure to things like this, instead of the same old same old....i think every large business or department store should reserve a window for "local" arts and crafts.....

I'm getting older. Sometimes by the second, I have no kids, and when I die my wife is going to look at those things that I hold valuable and simply toss most of it. They have no value to her, so how could they be valuable?

So for the past 6 to 9 months I've been thinking of ways to give some things away. Don't get me wrong, I'm not dying. It's just that I would like some of those things to go to some one who can appreciate them as I do.

I used to spend an easy hour, now and then, in the MIT Maritime Museum (Hart Nautical Gallery) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. If you can't find a buyer, there may be other ways....

I used to do the ship models (Revell?) when I was a kid, but this is truly spectacular!

And the scale - I did not realize how large it was until I looked at your avatar picture - that is a BIG model!

I have to think that a maritime museum would love to have something like this. And the attorney's office is a good suggestion - a friend used to sell large photo montages to attorneys, doctors, etc. Good money.

I am really surprized by the quality of this model. I too spent many years having the pleasure of building these planked hull wooden models. Mine were from Italian Sailing Ship Kits, very high quality, but not the Museum grade model yours is.

Don't give up, I'm sure there are many Museums that would like to have this model, it is awesome!

They really do have to be in a glass display case because otherwise they are impossible to keep clean.

On my last model I built the masts and rigging only up to the first "T" to reduce the required height of the case. Back in the 16th. to 19th. century, sailing ship models were often built in this matter as some rigging was still present.

Regarding selling it, you may be surprised what even a minor adjustment of the selling price can sometimes do.

Good luck on this, you WILL find a home, of that I'm sure.
