I think that is the wrong question..... 'Should airliners by flown by a single pilot?' And please don't shout at me, I didn't come up with the idea.

As I grow older I've come to sincerely believe that mental health researchers should try to determine why working at big corporations compels people to do and say extremely stupid things. Who cares about safety when you can reduce costs and boost profits/shareholder value? Notice the line in that story, "... but the industry needs a non-controversial way of slipping the idea into the system." Surely inspired by the same who "slip" reduced product amounts, smaller and smaller, yet keep the same price on the item. "Rightsizing," I believe it's called by the corporates. Daft and greedy, to propose "rightsizing" pilots.

They are probably just as competent as married Pilots.. ...!

What if the Pilot has a heart attack...who takes over?

..and who suffers from heart attacks the most?....Single pilots of Married pilots?

Therein lies the question!

Aye, and it's not just crew redundancy needed. Aircraft emergencies are far easier to deal with if one person can manage the emergency and another can "operate" the aeroplane etc.

The Americanos and the Euro Pee Ans are way behind the eight ball on this one.

In Canuck Land for the last four years there has only been one qualified peelot in the aeroplane cockpit.

Under Canuck Law one peelot and one dog is all that is required for an aircraft to fly with passengers or cargo.

The Peelot's job is to feed the dog.

The dog's job is to bite the peelot if he/she touches anything.




P.S. wonder who gets to wear the sunglasses?....

Without question the dog. Then the pilot does not know if the dog is looking at him or taking in the view of the clouds passing by. That way it helps to keep the pilot on his toes........
