Why, oh why do smoke alarms give a low level battery warning at 03:00 in the AM and not at a reasonable 10:00am. It is not much too ask is it??????
We have one in each room and at 3 o'clock this morning Mrs Expat kicks me out of bed to "go and find it as I can't sleep with beeping".............well I was not disturbed by it my darling, but yes, of course I will drag my butt out of bed and traipse from room to room until I find it, after all if you can't sleep, why should I............

You should always change the batteries in your smoke detectors every six months anyways.

Simply change the battery a couple hours before it goes bad.

It says test once a month and change the battery once a year on mine..........

I have two different smoke detectors; one is a ionization and the other is photoelectric. Both are relatively new and came with what they claim is a 10 year battery. Time will tell if the claims are true.....

My Smoke Alarms come with non-replaceable, riveted-in, 9-Volt PP3 batteries.
When the battery goes flat, the whole unit has to be replaced...(for free, by the Council).

They save moneys on any small parts and give it to the bigger "freinds" (Danish socialismn )

Funny.. Just tonight I took a shower with the bathroom door open and the hallway fire alarm started screaming away.
Is that normal for a smoke alarm to go off by steam? Or is it time to get a new one?

You must have an ionization type? They are notorious for false alarms and can be set off with steam, dust and even high humidity can make the dumb things go off. I wouldn't put it past one to go off over a good ole fart.

Ionization smoke detection is generally more responsive to flaming fires.
How they work: Ionization-type smoke alarms have a small amount of radioactive material between two electrically charged plates, which ionizes the air and causes current to flow between the plates. When smoke enters the chamber, it disrupts the flow of ions, thus reducing the flow of current and activating the alarm.

Photoelectric smoke detection is generally more responsive to fires that begin with a long period of smoldering (called “smoldering fires”).
How they work: Photoelectric-type alarms aim a light source into a sensing chamber at an angle away from the sensor. Smoke enters the chamber, reflecting light onto the light sensor; triggering the alarm.
