Float Season Again Part 2

Postby Flying Trucker » Wed May 01, 2013 8:13 pm

Goodly evening folks... :)

Continuing on from my post "Float Season Again" I started off using the Cessna 172 on Floats and something I seldom do is switched aircraft in simulated flight.
I switched to a Cessna 185 on floats.

Real Cessna 172s on floats become a good two seater and still a fun airplane to bugsmash about in.

Now the real Cessna 185 on floats is a much nicer and larger aircraft for family outings and they are used by many Flying Outfitters to move folks into and out of their fishing and hunting camps.

The Cessna 185 on Amphibious Floats, now that does give a real aviator some versatility.... ;)

Enjoy the shots...

Cessna 172 shots were at Dawn
Cessna 185 shots were taken at Dusk

Looking for just the right island to build a cottage on and of course...put up a two holer...

Just bugsmashing along...got a ham and cheese sandwich with some salted green onions to go with my tea.

Give me those sexy looks of the Cessna 172 over those heavy metal spam cans or military suck and blow fighters any day...

Here is the Cessna 185 on floats.

Cessna 185 cockpit with the port yoke removed...nice feature.

Dusk shots, a Lottery Win would be nice so I could purchase one of these islands.

Couple of boaters at 10 o'clock low as my trusty steed carries me happily along looking for my dock before I lose all light...

Comments and advice most welcome... ;)

Design and development

The Lockheed XFV originated as a result of a proposal issued by the US Navy in 1948 for an aircraft capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aboard platforms mounted on the afterdecks of conventional ships. Both Convair and Lockheed competed for the contract but in 1950, the requirement was revised, with a call for a research aircraft capable of eventually evolving into a VTOL ship-based convoy escort fighter. On 19 April 1951, two prototypes were ordered from Lockheed under the designation XFO-1 (company designation was Model 081-40-01). Soon after the contract was awarded, the project designation changed to XFV-1 when the manufacturer's code for Lockheed was changed from O to V.[2]

The XFV was powered by a 5,332 hp (3,976 kW) Allison YT40-A-14 turboprop engine driving three-bladed contra-rotating propellers. The tail surfaces were a reflected cruciform v-tail (forming an x) that extended above and below the fuselage. The aircraft had an ungainly appearance on the ground with a makeshift, fixed landing gear attached.[3] Lockheed employees derisively nicknamed the aircraft the "pogo stick" (a direct reference to the rival Convair XFY's name).[4]

Slack Adjusters:

With reference to trucks:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_slack_adjusters

Slack adjusters are used to adjust for wear on s-cam brakes on heavy and medium sized trucks.
A lever, connecting the brake chamber push rod with the foundation brake camshaft

With reference to aircraft:

Matt should jump in on this one.

However probably to adjust the brakes on aircraft and I would think most aircraft would now use Automatic Slack Adjusters but someone like Matt would know more about this.

Glad Hands:
