I never learned to fly on the Cessna 150 and the first C150s had no rear window or key to start them.

Have owned several models and always did like the aircraft, however the Old Girl preferred the Cessna 172 as she used to pack everything but the kitchen sink when she went on a trip.

The DeHavilland of Canada Tiger Moth, DHC-1 Chipmunk and the Fleet Canuck were very popular Aircraft Trainers in my day and there are still a few around.

I can remember sitting around the fire pit at the bugsmasher fields with a bunch of the old boys and when a Cessna 150 would land someone would say:
"There is a thrifty 150"
or
"Do you want to be an Airplane Pilot or a Cessna Driver"?

I do remember our first Cessna 150, it was a straight back and we kept her for almost a year. Never lost money buying and selling aircraft.
When I was alone in her many times she turned into a Supermarine Spitfire, Sopwith Camel or a Royal Aircraft Factory SE5A... :lol:

The things I like about my little 150 is that she is nicely balanced when trimmed correctly...(the 172 is slightly nose-heavy), is fairly thrifty for a normally aspirated push-rod piston engine, has an amazing turn of speed when piloted by "lightweight" ol' me and a favourable tail wind, together with numerous (non-approved.. :shock: ..) engine modifications, and scant regard for "over-speed" warnings when diving for that airstrip far down below!.... :D ...!

Her high speed/supersonic speed can be confirmed by my Multiplayer Mates!... :o ....!

She also enables a good field of view in all directions, including the skylight above!

The only thing to be wary of, is that delicate little nose-wheel, when landing on rough ground...littered with Gopher holes!... :o ...!

For that I need my "Tail-dragger" conversion....but then I lose my forward vision on the ground!.. :roll: ...!

But as a "Trainer", she cant be bettered... :dance: ...!

Thought you might be interested.

Now this is not taking into account the rag and tube/wood aircraft prior to the C150s appearance into General Aviation.

Sorry to slide off topic for a moment Paul.

I was wondering if there is a difference in a hours flight in the Cessna 152 and say an Auster Aircraft.

Here, an Auster would be considered a Classic Aircraft and although used for years by Civilian Flying Schools along with other greats like the Tiger Moth a ride in one of those two aircraft would cost more than a ride is a Cessna 150/172 or Piper 140.

I believe insurance plays a role here somehow.

I know an Aeronca Ercoupe owner who pays less insurance than a Cessna 150 owner two parking spots apart.

Owning an aircraft can be a real eye opener.... :lol:

Its very easy to giggle at some of the little Microlights and Flexwings slowly drifting overhead...

...but in real terms of getting from A to B quickly, they are far faster than my Super-Sport Motorbike by road!

I quite enjoy flying my little "Cosmos Flexwing" along Interstate 5, above the Los Angeles traffic, during the rush-hour....and I bet I get home first!... :lol: ...!

Piloting the Auster Aiglet spotter plane for the British Army on the Rhine, is a very distant memory now!

Took my Private Pilot check ride in a 1978 C-152. It had the Sparrow Hawk Engine Conversion (Pistons from the O-235-F, which raised the HP from 110 to 125) Sweet little bird!!! :handgestures-thumbsup:
