Water and sky graphics

Postby RAMPRAT » Sat Apr 13, 2013 9:07 pm

Not sure if this goes here or in computer hardware.Have noticed while flying over water at night that it looks like a grid or squares showing up. The sky looks like it goes from light blue/gray to black the higher up you go on the horizon in steps. Like light, alittle bit darker, a little more darker, darker and finnally black. I have tried adjusting my graphics settings and or scenery but no change. Could this be a monitor setting issue. Have a Asus 1080p hd moniter 24in. Using HDMI cable.

I would suggest to check the specs of your graphics card.

You shouldn't get these problems. (dont know what scenery you're flying!)
Try and update scenery before takeoff.

I too have seen this 'grid' effect on the water at night.

I too have an ATI/AMD vid card, a 6950 in this instance. As far as I'm aware, I've not got any thing installed that modifies the sea textures at all. I'll keep an eye on this thread to see if there's any kind of spectacular revelation, however, I have a creepy feeling it will end up with people saying that nVidia is the way it's meant to be played... See what I did there?

I'll get my coat.

Well, after much trial and error I now have GREAT LOOKING NIGHT SKY complete with stars and a bright moon that shimmers off of a very nice looking ocean. No more ocean grid and no more different shades of gray to black. I reset some of my monitor setting i.e. 1920 x 1080x16 high color to 1920x1080x32 true color and went into catalist control and turned on a few extra filters for the graphics card. Works so far.

Ookay, I'll bite...

What changes were made to what filters in order to achieve the desired result? Do the settings changes apply to the entire system or can they be made to kick-in only for specific applications? And if they do modify the display for all applications that run, how have the changes affected (for better or worse) any other games that you run?

Cheers,

Rob.

Dont know if this is what your looking for but these are my settings. As far as FSX goes, my settings are as follows Graphics-custom Target frame rate-unlimited, filtering-anistropic w/anti-aliasing on, global texture high and land detail textures on. Advanced animation is on. Aircraft is on ultra-high. Scenery is custom-level of radius is medium, mesh comp is 75% resolution is38m texture res is 1m water effects is at mid2x land detail textures -on scenery complexity is very dense autogen is dense. SPC effects are high. Wheather is ultra-high. Traffic is custom. 50% airline a/c 30% general avation medium airport traffic. cars-50 % ships/ferrries 50% and liesure boats 50%... My monitor is set on gaming mode with a resolution of 1920x1080x32. As far as my graphics card, in the catalist control center i have the digital flat panel scaling option set at 0% overscan, enable LCD Overdrive set at medium (150 ) and pixel format at YCbCr 4:4:4. In gaming anti-aliasing the morpological setting is off. Frame rate control i have the Wait for vertical refresh set to on and the Open GL Tripple buffering-on. Lastly, the Tesselation mode is AMD optimized and the tesselation mode level is AMD optimized. Hope that helps. P.S. I only play FSX-GOLD/ACCELERATION no other games.
