real-world weather (updates)

Postby Elliott » Tue Mar 19, 2013 3:47 pm

I am having problems getting the current weather in (real-world weather (updates). I've tried everything Microsoft has to offer with no joy. Does anyone out there have and suggestion to fix this problem.

The real world weather server (FS2Kzone.com) has been using information from the beginning of March and has apparently not been updated. Many on other FS Forums have commented on the same issue, and have speculated that Microsoft may have terminated the 'agreement' between themselves and Jeppesen. An interesting note is that, according to Jeppesen, they have either not provided weather info to Microsoft since 2010, or that they had no knowledge of providing any type of weather 'info' to Microsoft (depending on who one spoke to at Jeppesen).

Last Saturday 3/23/13 during our latest snowstorm, I fired up FS 9 and started a session at my 'home' airport, Centennial (KAPA). The METAR for the time I started the session indicated LIFR conditions, wind 020 @ 15G22, visibility 1/2 mi. with blowing snow and a 400' base, according to AvnWx.com. With Real World Weather turned on, the sim gave me clear skies with light wind and no clouds!

I decided to try out FSrealWX lite, and once I got the program installed and running I ran the sim again. This time it accurately showed an overcast sky with snow falling, and the wind at both the 'proper' direction & speed.

Much better!

Give it a try; it's free but you'll need a copy of FSUIPC, which doesn't need to be registered.

Why Do I have a strange feeling that in about another 3 to 5 years, none of this stuff we all have in our Simulators or Our Simulators is going to work,,, at all,,,

they'll be some New Windows operating system out yet again, that for whatever reasons, won't be compatible with Flight Simulator whatever version,,, not to mention 1/2 the planes we have or other Add On's we've installed in our past computers.

I've been Flight Simming since 2002, when I had the Pro edition,,

Even with Prepar and all the other stuff,, its like a Venue nobody else wants to take up, and continue where Microsoft left off.

I hate to think, of a New Flight Sim, coming into the seen, with only a few cities and maybe countries to fly around in and no other way to have the Aircraft you'd really want,, Kinda like that Disasterous FLIGHT fiasco, they tried to shove down our throats, that wasn't worth a hoot,, for all the phony BS Amped up Advertising about it, that only gave users HAWAII and Alaska if you purchased it,,, and NO ATC, Float planes or Jetliners or Heli's,, just a basic 1/2 assed poorly made cheap, yet expensive Disasterous Sim, somebody thought we'd all go to our knees for,,,,,

Boy, were they Full of themselves - found out Differently , didn't they , for Flight is no more, thankfully !

Well its been fun,, with all this Flight Sim Stuff,, thru out the years, I've limited purchases on payware lately, for I'm afraid of not being able to enjoy them a few years down the road,,,,

Who would of thought back in 2005 or 2007, that Microsoft would of gave up and Deserted the Flight Sim Venue, nobody would of believed it back then and told ya, you were full of BS !

Systems are Changing, times are changing, attitudes are different now , many of us whogot into this Flight Sim stuff, way back when, are getting older now, some have retired from the Venue / Hobby, some unfortunately have Passed Away,,,,,

The Younger Generation either isn't all that intersteaded , like we were, except a very few, or they want Fast Action Arcade Gaming style Games / Simulators with lots of Action fast paced , that doen't require hours upon hours of Tinkering and Tweaking with the Game / Sim, to make it work on whatever system they have,,,,

I've got just over 4,500 Aircraft for Flight Simulator FSX Gold / Acceleration edition, some Freeware and some Payware,,,,

I just wonder, if 5 to 10 years down the road if I'll really Still be able to use any of em' ????

Kinda like that Real World Weather Application, thru Jeppesson that we thought, Assumed would always be there forever,,, Isn't,,,,

Ya, theres X-Plane, but, I'm Not going to Dive into it, This is the end of it for me,, once Microsofts FSX quits and won't work on anything anymore in the future,, computer wize, that is for whatever reasons, and who knows what that'll be, till we cross that bridge and find out !

But I see it comin, unfortunately down the road.

that or,, Computer Desk Tops become a thing of the past - History,, just like 8-Track Tape players or the VHS Tape or Beta Max or that Lazer Disk,, that once was touted going to be the next big Rave,,,, if ya remember the 1980's, early 1990's era,,,, look what happened ,,,,,,

Soon DVD's and CD's will be Obsolete, who's gonna need em', when ya can download movies, music, games - additional Aircraft whatever straight to your HDTV Flat panel TV or music device, much like being able to actually download these Aircraft in high Def detail, like Carnado's or Captain Sim's or Just Flights or PMDG's,,,

who'd of thought way back when,,, ???

Going to be intersting to see what the next 3 to 5 years holds in store for Flight Simming & simmers, those of us that will be left and still somewhat into it.

Your thoughts if any ???

Jet.

Well lady's and gentlemen I contacted Jeppesen who is the real weather provider for Flight Simulator. They advised that they are NO LONGER Supporting Microsoft Flight Simulator. I hope Microsoft can find a resolution to this problem.

I found my own solution to this. It's called "Open Clouds" and is available as a free download if you only use it in and around the UK or for a small subscription (£5 per year) is available to use World wide.
I tried a couple of flights in the UK and was so impressed I immediately subscribed. In my opinion it's way better than the default real World weather.
I should add, I have no connection with the author or the program. I am just a big fan.

..and it's available here at SimV. Search for "Open Clouds."

Just to amend the above. I think that the program only loads real World clouds. I can't seem to get it to simulate rain or snow.
Having said that, the improvement in cloud and fog rendition is a vast improvement, and who wants to fly in rain or snow???

What I use for my FS 2004 Real Weather, is REX; "rexwxengine2"

It generate real weather obtained from a number of local Weather Stations in the area I am flying, and provides a Weather Map of the conditions; clouds, storms, visibility, etc!

Just an update,,, if i'm correct , if not - correct me,,,,

Game Spy No longer supports FSX

and now

Jeppsen real weather no longer supports FSX

Slowly things are falling out of place,,,

Wonder what the next 3 to 5 years will hold in store for much of this Flight Sim stuff,,, makes ya wonder,,,, here today - gone tomorrow.

Tho it has been a fun intersting ride the last 8 to 10 years,,, I just don't see another 8 to 10 years or even longer with this , as operating systems change, and other stuff slowly fades away,,,

I'm afraid all this will become Shelf Stuff, and we'll be able to Google, what once was,,,a Historical Moment to look back on' and Reflect on as some of us get older

Much like that 8-Track pioneer Tape Deck from 1972 or 1977

or how about that Much touted at the time on our Large Screen 25" TV's , PAC MAN ,,, for those old enough to remember that ???????

Also, apparently that web site WSPILOTS is gone and not on the net anymore,,,,

All this makes me realize I'm getting older,,, as all this stuff slowly fades into history, and it kinda sucks !

well anyway,,,,,
