Virtual Airlines

Could someone point me to a good Virtual Airlines and is there someplace that I could have my own so I can fly with everyone but under my own flight schedule?  Do any of these allow you to speed up the Sim time?  I just don't have time to sit for an hour and make a flight (which really means a hour and half with takeoff and landing).

You do realize that there are as much, or even more virtual airlines than there are real airlines?

You just need to look around and find one that suits you

As for the time compression, I don't know, but as some of them try to be as realistic as possible, I would say no, but I wouldn't know.

Well for starters this post will soon be moved. But I have flown for several VA'S and for the most part they frown upon using slew to speed things up. Since most va's copy some form of a real airline they try to operate the same way using actual schedules the real airline does with the same equipment and same time frames but not all va's are this way.
I currently fly for AIR source and they do not really follow any airline but do have a scheduled section where you can fly flights for just about all of the airlines out there. They also have a Bid section and a ASHA section with the ASHA section considered a Humanitarian section where you fly flights like flying supplies to the sunami area or to Mississippy for the huricane victims and that kind of thing.

You are required to register and only need to make 1 flight a month to stay active. The things I like about air source is you do not need to down load there aircraft as long as you currently have something similar and I like the little program called active air source that will keep track of your flight and at the end it automaticaly sets up to PIREP the flight ( fancy word for file the flight)
But there are a ton of VA'S out there some good some not so good.

Wow, thanks everyone... this is great info.  I will checkout Air-Source.

As far as time, it's the age old problem... kids want time (pause flight sim), Wife wants time (pause flight sim), then the secondary family calls or the dogs need out (pause sim).  I just find that it's better to do a ATC flight, enjoy the take-off, zip along at 4x speed until ATC whines at me, make changes, then back to 4x, then enjoy a nice landing...while pausing all along for the above issues.

Gary, do I need to join Vatsim to fly with Airsource?  Looks pretty interesting.  What happens when your computer crashes during a flight?  Can you describe the overall process of joining and how often you fly?  Thanks, Todd

Hey Mickey, if you are time limited, you could always do the regional thing.  USAirways Virtual has the PA regional runs which are numerous.  Philly-Pittsbrg, Harrisburg-Philly or Pittsbrg, Harrisburg-BWI, etc.  Those runs are done with Dash-8's and ERJ/CRJ.  Now, due to not being able to plan my sim time real far in advance I haven't actually flown for them as a registered pilot but they have a neat little downloadable utility which downloads USAirways flight schedules for all over the world.  I use that to simulate my offline " revenue" flights using my USAirways livery Fanda Dash-8, PMDG 737, and until I get the CRJ or ERJ add-ons at wilco I use the Fokker-100 in USAirways livery for the regional jet service.  Sometimes, I go to a prior era and fly the routes with US Air liveried B1900 for which I have a near fully simulated 2D panel and also I use the US Air Jetstream-31 with Matthias Leibberect's panel and the Iron Knuckles DC-9 or DM 1-11-200 in Allegheny colors.  Make this YOUR sim Mickey.  The possiblities are only limited to your imagination.

I fly for Ionathan Airlines with hubs in Greece and Britain. There are several airlines with hubs across the globe. Its quite flexible, but also very realistic and gratifying. Check it out if you're not already flying.

No you do not need to join VATSIM that is up to you if you wish to fly on line. As for pausing the sim while flying if you are using active air source it will pause as well and adjust your flight time. Example if you are in the middle of a 1 hour flight and have to pause it for say 2 hours and you unpause and finish the flight it will be report the actual time you flew which in this case will be 1 hour or less. On the Bid and ASHA flights you usually do not use air source but all you have to do is jot down the time you back out of the gate & the time you pause and unpause the sim so you make an accurate time frame for the flight.

Ramos: Could you explain a little more about the way this works?  You said that you could download the Skyteam, oneworld, and star alliance flight tables... do you fly these offline?  How do you report back the scheduled time and are these flights all IFR?

If you're looking for realism, let me put in a word for Metro Air (http://www.metroairvirtual.com/).  They have a nice selection of regional and longish (the longest we have at the moment, and probably for the forseable future is 4.5 hours Detroit to Burbank).  Personally I mostly stick with Dash 8s, but its great to be able to grab a 737 when I have time on my hands.

Ok, since I started this thread, let me tell you where I ended up.

I've started flying at FlyNET (http://flynet.en-studios.de/), I like the fact that I can flying at compressed rates a huge plus for me and it works best.

I don't have any problems with FSP and a CH Yoke, but I did instal FSP first, so you might want to try reinstalling the yoke (if it's the usb just unplug, replug).
