Multiplayer help....

Postby fanofdave3898 » Mon Jul 02, 2007 5:55 pm

I apologize if this has already been posted, but I am new to FS multiplayer and have run into a problem.

A buddy of mine just got high speed internet and he wanted us to fly together on multiplayer. I did some reading up on it and realized that I could host a match and he could join it. That was perfect since he and I probably wouldn't fly very well with people on a server who were trying to be professional....Neither or us are too great.

Anyways....I hosted a match 2 or 3 times and we flew together fine. After about the 3rd time, he could no longer search my ip address for an open room. I decided to let him host a match, and I was able to join up once or twice perfectly. Now, neither he nor I can host or join one another's room. If we search one another's ip address, we get nothing; where normally we would find the room perfectly. We have not changed anything on our computers or in FS2004...mainly because we wouldn't know how to, so it isn't like we goofed with a special setting. It worked one day....then it didn't.

Obviously the initial settings on my copy of FS2004 and his copy were fine because it worked well for 3 or 4 times, then nothing..

Any ideas?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Both of you just connect to Multiplayer in FS 2004...

Then both of you just enter this address in the box, and do a search...>>>

85.10.244.109

It should turn up the Simviation Server

...Join...

And you will both be on line...;)...!

Browse with this address....>>>>

http://cockpit.netfrag.org:8090/

And you will see each other, and who else/if any is on line...;)...!

...easy-peasy...!

It sounds like your dsl service(s) may be using dynamic IP addressing. If so your IP address will change from time to time and, if so, the address you exchanged will not be valid.

Whoever decides to host the MP session should check his current IP address and notify the other.

At any time you can get your current IP address here: http://myipaddress.com

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.

Fozzer,

Thanks for the response. I will definitey try that in the next few days. Hopefully it will work for me and my buddy. If it doesn't, at least I'll have an idea of where to start.

dave3cu,

I thought about the changing IP address too, but he and I check our IP addresses every time (at that exact site that you posted) and they have not changed. It is just kinda weird that it all of a sudden stopped working. I was hosting a session just for me and him, but somehow it just quit working. So strange. I have no idea what it could be. Anyways, I think we'll try the IP that fozzer suggested. If it all works, we'll probably just forget about this whole thing and piddle around on there. My fear is that us cutting up would mess up someone who was really serious about his simming. I would not want to do that.

Thanks to you both for the responses. Once we get on the server, I'll make sure I respond to let you guys know if it worked or not.

Thanks again!

I know what you mean about interfering with, or upsetting players already on-line, but if you keep an eye on any prearranged Simviation Multiplayer meetings posted in this thread, (generally at specific times on week-ends), you will find that most of the time you and your buddy are on your own*...which is nice!... 8-)...!

And you always have the choice whether to chat/type, (via the Chat Window), to other Flyers on line......or not!.... ;D...!

Don't forget....

85.10.244.109

....is the dedicated Simviation Server, and that address stays constant... :)...!

Have fun...!

Followup:

Make sure that both of you are using the correct port. (Multiplayer Connect window>Client Settings) If your not, the clients IP search may not find the server IP. This holds true whether connecting to each other or to another server.

Also your firewall must be configured to 'allow' the necessary ports. This is often referred to as 'port forwarding'. If not properly set up this can result in disconnection from a session , or worse yet, other players getting disconnected when you join a
