SimV Server with Dial-up?

Postby jlvandem » Tue Aug 08, 2006 10:01 pm

Hey guys, I'm sure you're probably sick of hearing all kinds of questions about connecting to the SimV FSHost server but I just can't seem to get things to work. I'm running FS2002 on a brand new WinXP machine so I'm assuming it has SP2. I'm running People PC Dial-Up connection (pathetic I know) and I just can't seem to get a connection. I've disabled my McAfee firewall. I go in to flight sim go to the multiplayer section and type in the IP and hit search. The hourglass comes up for a few seconds and then nothing shows up in the sessions window. If someone could please help me I'd greatly appreciate it. Contacting me on AIM at maverick21016 might be the best way if I happen to be online. Thank You!

I've determined the problem is somewhere on my side of the connection. I've tried many other servers and I can get some to show up in the sessions window but nothing will connect. I've also tried pinging several servers. 85.10.244.109 times out as well as many other common servers but some will reply. What do I need to do to get this thing working? Could somebody please help me? Thank you.

...don't worry about 56k Dial-Up connection....
I have used it for many years (still do) with no problems at all... :)...!

With a reasonable computer specification, it works fine... ;D...!

Note: I run Windows XP SP1, with NO ROUTER! and no firewall, so I dont have any "Port" problems... ;)...!

Paul...a happy 56k'er... ;)... ;D...!

I've been taking my firewall down and I'm not using a router which is why I'm so confused. The only explination I can think of is that my ISP could possibly be blocking the ports. Also since some people seem to think SP2 is evil I guess it could possibly be blocking me out. It just doesn't make sense because I have no router and my firewall is down and Windows firewall is turned off as well.

Do you go here to check who is on the Server for Sim V....>>>>

http://cockpit.netfrag.org:8090/

Anyone who is on line at Sim V will appear there... ;)...!

The rest involves clicking on Multiplayer in FS 2004, Connect, and fill in the address, making sure that Port 23456 is selected in the settings... ;D...!

Actually, I thought Sam had cured that problem regarding FS 2002 users...?

I've been doing exactly what you said Paul. I fire up FS2002 go to the connect page and type in the IP 85.10.244.109 hit search and get nothing at all. I think I have the proper port open but I'm not quite sure how that works. The router tutorial doesn't apply to me since I'm just a dial-up user with a direct phone line to the internet. I've also knocked down my firewall. I've tried several other servers and sometimes they will come up but when I click join it fiddles around for a few minutes then says unable to connect. ???

As you don't have a Router 99% of your problems are instantly cured...LOL... ;D...!

In the "Client Settings" option in the Multiplayer Window make sure you select 23456 as the Port address.... ;)...!

...'trubble is....I'm looking at my FS 2004 Multiplayer Window....
The FS2002 Multiplayer Window may be different...?

I'm waiting for someone to pop in and let us know how they get on with their FS 2002 Multiplayer....
...no-one so far.... :'(...!

Cheers... ;D...!

Win XP. Service Pack 1. NO Router.... ;)...!

I've not used the SimV server .......... and can't find it on FSHostspy (or I'm too piddled to see it which is probably more to the point 21.27 Wed 9th Aug Ashover Show day). Me is thinking it's probably an FS2004 server only.

FS2002 has no client settings options. Guess I'm not gonna be doing any online flying then unless I find an FS2002 server. Oh well.  I think I'll just wait it out until FSX comes out. It just doesn't seem to make sense though still because certain servers will show up in the sessions window but I'm unable to connect to them. Hmm.
