Why so many 'moves' on this forum?

Postby Tinfish » Tue Mar 20, 2007 4:18 pm

Hi guys.

I'm quite a new member of Simviation and basically like the setup here.
But I just got to wonder why so many posts here are 'moved' elsewhere.
Ive never seen anything like it on any of the other forums I'm on.
I mean sure, some of the posts clearly belong elsewhere, but others
are clearly FS2004 related.

For example, I posted my latest FS2004 video (Death of a FlightSim) here the other day but it was moved to an obscure forum called 'other sites' for some odd reason.  I dont get it.

I've never have any of my videos moved in this way from the dozen or so flightsim sites
Ive been a member of for the past 5 years.

Could someone shed some light on the setup here?

Ta

Tin

PS: I did post a note with my video to admin asking that the video not be
moved. But the note was deleted and the post was moved anyway with explanation.

Ok. Just found this message in my inbox but I'm still puzzled.

Post you make on other sites get moved to the 'other Sites' forum as we have our own sections for videos & a video at another site belongs in 'Other Sites' - that's what that forum is for

Links to videos are not allowed on the main flight sim forums. Thats why the vids are moved to the other sites section.

It is rather simple ......... at Simviation, maybe unlike the other sites you are involved with, videos linked to other sites go in the "Other Sites" section of this forum.  That section is not "obscure" at all; it is a valued part of the Simviation forums.  It is not "hidden", since it sits right there on the main forum section entryway page.  If someone is looking for linked videos, that is where they will be found.

If you post them there originally, then they will not get moved.

best,

....................john

Hi John.

Thanks for the update.

I must admit it  sounds more 'complicated' than 'simple' to me.

If I'm posting a FS2004 video here for members to watch, then naturally
I will have to link the video to the server or site that the video is stored on, in which case
you or the other admin team will then tag my post it as 'other sites' despite it being FS2004 related.

Catch 22.

Hi.  Thanks for the update.

Could you kindly explain why links to videos or images  arent allowed?
Arent members trusted here?

As I say, this is the first flightsim site Ive ever had this issue with.
It just seems a little odd and overcomplex.

Cheers.

Quote from a mod when I asked about the issue:

"Videos tend to be a knotty issue. If it is just some flying it'll go into Other. If it was some video of a real plane really flying then either Real Aviation or Specific Aircraft. It is a knotty one but we DON'T have videos in the FS forums."

Hope this helps.

How long until this one gets moved....lol

Honestly, I think the amount of moving can be a lot, but it really helps!  Topics in forums RARELY aren't related to what the forum is, which is good because if I am going to the real aviation section for example I don't want to read a post about what the best DC-3 for FS is.

At first when a topic of mine was moved, I didn't really understand. But now I do. The mods here actually care about the upkeep on this forums where as in other forums mods don't really enforce the rules and things get out of hand and stuff. So great job mods!! 8-)

Or you could always disguise your video post as a screenshot post by adding a few shots :P In that case the screenie board is your place.... Depending on what is in the shots, either Freeware or Payware.....
