Locked and Deleted Threads...

Postby Fozzer » Sun Jul 16, 2006 5:46 am

Every now and again, an overenthusiastic Moderator, etc, gets out of bed on the wrong side, in a bad mood, invokes his authority and personal opinion, and decides to lock and remove a particular interesting, and much read discussion thread to Administration...
Why...?
Why cannot these threads just simply be "locked" if considered to be REALLY NECESSARY!, and left in place for others to read and make up their own minds regarding the subject....?

We may not all agree with some of the replies, but at least we would be able to view them...

Cheers all...!

PS Mark - there's some gratuitous Spitfire pics in the photos forum... ;) ;D

*please don't. I don't know what Pete would think if he came back to find the whole moderating team had banned each other! ;D

...LOL... ;)... ;D...!

I think sometimes it's a shame... :'(...!

We have recently lost a highly interesting Thread on the subject of immediate World news, of interest to us all, where Members not only expressed their opinions, as you do, but also included a fascinating history lesson on a particular area....   ;)...!
I thought it was going quite well at the time, made a good, interesting, sensible read, ...and was not too feisty...8)...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

It would be nice to have locked threads back after they've been taken away in the night to the admin board. I always like to see whats been said in a thread like that and by stopping people from reading you leave people in the dark about whats acceptable to say and what isn't.

The thread in question was against forum rules. No politics. Simple as that.

I'll be a bit blunt here, certain of our younger British and American members (no names mentioned yet) saying things like "lets nuke the commie muthaf*****s!" and saying anyone who isn't a fascist moron from their country should die does tend to be a bit of a thread killer...
The N. Korea thread the other week was going really well and was funny as well as informative until rootbeer dipped his right-wing oar in...
So really if people could learn to control themselves and not spout crypto-fascist rubbish then we wouldn't have this problem and could discuss things in a meaningful manner!
The reason we tend to move the threads is that in the past when there has been an "issue" over something even if the thread is locked someone tends to try and continue the argument with people in other threads. Anyone remember Oso and his little wobbler over Iraq? Someone disagreed with the President and he being a loyal citizen of the US of A went off the deep end at his own countrymen for daring to question the President and his motives... It wiped out about a page of the General forum before the dust settled!

My point is that if the topic is deleted (instead of being moved so we can't read it) nobody will wonder what it was all about. It will soon be forgotten.

PS. It's not always the younger members to blame for deliberately stirring up trouble.

If they shouldn't be there they shouldn't be read. Sounds simple to me.

Threads are sometimes moved to the admin board, and any "moved" reference in the original boards is removed, so for the general readership, the thread has been deleted.

Sometimes we'll review and recant, but most of the time once it's moved, for all practical purposes, it's deleted.  It is a shame because what had been an interesting discussion on something, may have gotten hijacked and turned into something else.

For all the niceness amongst the mods, our perosnal political and religious leanings are all over the spectrum.  I'm quite sure that there are some that consider me such a right-wiing theocratic fascist imperialist warmonger, that I've gone full circle around to the commie pinko leftist tree-hugging whiner side, and all points in between.  BUT *we the mods*  know that Simviation is not a politcal discussion forum and we can get heated up very easily when the civility of a thread starts breaking up.

Probably the single greatest offense in *my* eyes is discourteous incivility, and when you think about it, that's why threads REALLY get locked/deleted.
