The Oath overrated?

Postby Theis » Wed May 24, 2006 9:33 am

In this contest, i have seen people directly trying to aviod mentioning, if a member has used a payware aircraft, registred too late and so on.

And I dont think that is a good sign, because at some point, it will not be accepted to say, that a entry isn't legal.

This is like you would not dare calling the police, because you have signed a oath, where you promised not to misuse 911..

And I know "The Oath" is ment to help, but it had the opposite effect...

So people, please don't be afraid with busting the cheaters, but say it in a nice and gentle manner, and you'll be ok. :)

Just my honest opinion.

Well it's up to the judges, so it won't really matter what anyone says. May aswell just leave it, not point it out, and let the judges do their job!

I think the oath is meant in a good manner, but it had the opposite effect.

Like a campaign here in denmark where signs was put up along side the road, and on it it says "Keep focused!"
but the pink signs rather distracted the drivers.
so they was quickly pulled down again..

but it shows that even as ment in a good manner, can damage more than help

And i think people has misunderstood the oath.

I think this month people are afraid to mention any faults etc in fear that something bad will happen

As a fellow SimV'er said this month (Im not picking at you, you are just an example)

" I know where you got the spit as I have the same one, I signed the oath so won't comment on that though!"

This proves my point very well..

People ARE afraid of doing anything wrong because of the oath!

This is why I think the oath is a faliure!

Not failed exactly, just restricted. I haven't seen any cases of anyone complaining about a shot (apart from notifying those of shots which may be too large, which is understandable) this month, which of course is much different to last month! Silly comments such as "the wheels aren't on the ground!" when there was no substantial evidence to back it up, is what started the whole arguement about it.

I think because people have kept their traps shut, it's kept the whole thing arguement free!

My advice to anyone entering a competition thats supposed to determine the best shot. If your afraid of some negative critisism then dont bother entering. If you want sunshine blown up your backside for what might not be a top quality shot, then post in the screenshot part of the site.
And if your not going to bother reading the rules concerning the competition, then you deserve people pointing it out and perhaps causing embarressment. it takes less than a couple of minutes to read the rules page, Dave or whomever took the time to write them out, the least an entrant can do is take the time to read them.

How about we do it like some of the other sites..........

DO NOT ALLOW REPLIES!!!

This contest has been the smoothest yet.

Oh and Theis, I thought I would mention as you seamed to have taken the Oath a bit too seriously, don't you think?
It was a joke that eased the tension bit.

Before I even took 2 minutes to wrote that little post, there was not even going to be a May contest!

Lighten up and enjoy the privileges you are given at this site.

Let us do our job!
